Comments are still not working on Corrieblog. Photos are taking an age to upload as well, which is why some posts may not be illustrated! As we can't do a proper yay or nay this week, I thought I'd do a little poll instead.

Last week's yay or nay was cut off in its prime a bit by the technical difficulties we were having. Only six people managed to get a reply in before everything went pear-shaped, but those who did were split as to whether cousin Tom deserves a bigger storyline.

06_03_ken-martha.jpgThis week we're asking: do you have any sympathy for Ken Barlow? I don't mean do you have any sympathy for William Roache, because of course we all do. But the character he plays is currently enjoying cosy floating liaisons with the beautiful Martha Fraser, while the long-suffering Deirdre copes with the ironing, Blanche and looking after Ken's son and grandson. Or maybe you think Deirdre is such an old nag that poor Ken deserves a bit of happiness elsewhere? Or maybe you think that Deirdre is only bitter and twisted because Ken is so horrible to her? It's not simple.

I'm not sure whether our lovely comments facility will be back to normal anytime soon, so if you have any trouble getting a comment to work, please feel free to email me with your thoughts and I'll put them on the blog later in the week.

Last week we asked: do you vote in soap awards? It obviously wasn't my most brilliant yay or nay topic, as only ten people managed to respond, but generally the response was a yay.

This week, there's been some discussion in Corrieblog comments about the man I can't help thinking of as "cousin Tom." You know who I mean, anyway. Since his arrival in the Street he hasn't been given that much to do - a bit of banter with Liam, an embarrassing incident with Sean, and currently some business negotiations with Luke Strong. If Luke does buy him out of LadRags, there won't really be anything left for him to hang around for. So does he deserve a bigger storyline of his own? Is he a character who could continue to play a significant part in the Street, or are his days numbered? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay: does cousin Tom deserve a bigger storyline?

Last week we asked: is a happy couple a boring couple? And the answer was a unanimous nay. t42 said "Couples do not need to cheat on each other to be interesting. I think the street needs some moral stability."
soap-awards.jpg
This week, as the awards season gets into its stride with voting open in both the British Soap Awards and the All About Soap Bubble Awards, I'm wondering who out there actually votes for them. I have to admit I happily go through the online voting procedures ticking the boxes, but if I end up on a page where I have to enter loads of personal information in order to get my votes to register, I will often click away and do something else instead. I know, I only have myself to blame when That London-Based Soap carries off the prizes.

What about you? Do you vote in soap awards? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked: should Tina stand by her man? I think the answer has to be "we don't care really," because there was a very small response in comparison to recent weeks. For what it's worth, I think the majority view was that Tina should do what she feels is right, regardless of whether it's what David wants. So that's a Nay.

25_07_molly-tyrone-2.jpgThis week, I've been thinking about the spoiler we brought you earlier in the week about Kevin Webster and Molly Dobbs having an affair. We still don't know if this is really going to happen or not, but would it upset you if it did? I was upset when we first heard the spoilers about Steve and Becky getting together (I even Monday Moaned about it here), but by the time the storyline actually came around the writers had developed the situation so that it was really plausible, and now to me they seem like the perfect match. I can't rule out that the same could happen for Kevin and Molly (but for them to still end up back with their original partners). After all, Jack and Vera, to whom Molly and Tyrone are often compared, weren't always the most faithful of partners, but they endured to become one of the Street's all-time favourite couples.

So let's ponder the broad question: in soap-world, is a happy couple a boring couple? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked, will you miss Carla? Out of 37 comments received so far, a whopping 70% of you said you would miss Carla while Alison is on her maternity leave: "She always lights up the screen when she's on," said Tricia.

30_01_david-gail-tina.jpgThis week, poor Tina McIntyre is faced with a dilemma. She knows that David swung the first punch at Gary Windass, but David has asked her to back him in saying that Gary started the fight. If she does this, there's a good chance Gary will be sent to prison. Although we know that technically David started it, we also know that Gary deliberately set out to make David start it - which means that, morally at least, Gary started it. Doesn't it?

What should Tina do? Click the comments link and have your say, whether it's yay or nay.

Last week we asked: do you watch every episode of Coronation Street? An overwhelming 80% of you said yay, with some people going to great lengths to make sure they don't miss a single episode.

03_12_carla.jpgIn a yay or nay two years ago we asked if anyone liked Carla (who at the time was a newish character), and the response was very mixed. As time went on, the reaction to Carla warmed up, and now that Alison King is about to go off on maternity leave, I'd like to ask: will you miss Carla? I will - I love her mix of feistiness and vulnerability, ruthlessness and kindness, how she can be so sophisticated but the way she talks sometimes lets her rough upbringing show through. What about you? Are you glad of a respite from raven hair, or will you be counting the days till Carla's return? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

In last week's yay or nay we asked: have you taken to the Windasses? And it's bad news for the new family on the block, because the verdict was 27% yay, 18% undecided, and a fairly convincing 55% say nay. "They are just annoying and repulsive," according to Mags.

This week, please reveal your viewing habits. Now we have Sky+ and other handy test-card.jpgrecording devices, as well as internet catch-ups, there isn't any reason to miss your favourite television programme. Or is there? Is Corrie on just too many times a week for you to watch every single episode? Or have certain storylines made you switch off? What I'd like to know is: do you watch every episode of Coronation Street? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked: Is Corrie heading in the right direction? The answer was a very resounding "yay" (though Nurse Florence Ganderpoke and Tvor did get sidetracked a bit discussing Peter Barlow's tattoos).

anna-eddie-211.jpgThe Windasses have moved to centre stage in Corrie this week, with Gary and Uncle Len robbing copper piping from the builders' yard and Eddie trying to keep his son out of trouble in his own shifty way (Anna has been "at work" so we haven't seen her). How are you taking to this new family? Bearing in mind that it always takes a while for a new family to really settle in (something which only happened with the Mortons just before they left), I quite like them. I particularly like Anna and Eddie, because although they seem like cliched feckless scroungers, there's a lot more to them, and they're played by excellent actors who can bring some depth to the characters. I'm not so sure about Gary in the long term - once we've had enough of him winding David Platt up, I don't know where the character can go, but the genius of the Corrie scriptwriters knows no bounds so we'll see.

But what do you think? Have you taken to the Windasses? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked for your opinion on the Liz/Lloyd relationship. The verdict was a most definite "yay."

carla-takes-tony's-temperat.jpgThis week, I'm thinking big again. I personally think that Kim Crowther is doing an excellent job on Corrie. Current storylines are good, there's a nice balance of characters and the writing has been great. But a comment to a recent episode review said, "it's heart breaking to watch whilst at the same time remembering the classic days of Ena and co," so obviously not everyone agrees with me.

What do you think? Is Corrie heading in the right direction? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked: did Christmas on the Street excite you?. Possibly you were all suffering from hangovers when you added your comments, because no-one sounded really happy. Apart from one exception and a couple of people perched on the fence, the verdict was a pretty resounding nay.

29_12_liz-lloyd.jpgMoving swiftly on, and I think we'll start 2009 with a fairly easy one. The New Year episodes saw the formation of a new Corrie couple, Liz and Lloyd. I think they're rather sweet together, and there's real chemistry between Bev Callard and Craig Charles. My daughter, however, practically gags whenever they get within snogging range of each other. Mind you, she's at that age. But what do you think? Click the comments link to cast your vote: Liz and Lloyd - yay or nay.

25dec_platts_Christmas.JPGI was reading the weekly summary written by Flaming Nora over on her blog, here, and she's just posted her Christmas update. She didn't seem to think Christmas had all the thrills and chills of previous years and it seems to have left her a bit disappointed. There was merit in some of what she says, I did enjoy most of the season's offerings. We did have the annual Platt scrap though I would agree it wasn't the level of revelations it has been in the past. We had gaudy Christmas lights in the tradition of Les Battersby but not as classy as the Mallett's "Santa's Nookie Nest", mind you! We did miss the Barlows' Christmas altogether and I did rather miss Blanche insulting Deirdre's cooking. I loved Becky and Steve's Grotto Love and I enjoyed watching the attraction grow between Liz and Lloyd and regrow between Tyrone and Molly (though it's not quite there yet). Tony strangling Jed with a nightie and then watching the factory workers party around the body hidden in the bin was truly ironic.

So what did you think? Did you enjoy this year's Christmas festivities and intrigues on Coronation Street?

Carla2.jpgI thought an end-of-year look back through the answers to our weekly yay or nay questions might be interesting as a way of seeing how Corrieblog readers have been feeling about the show through the last 12 months.

A lot of yay-or-nays dealt with individual characters, and of these there was huge approval for Molly and Tyrone, Tina McIntyre, Auntie Pam and particularly Carla Connor (or Gordon as we must now call her). Characters who've now left the show such as the Masons, Vernon Tomlin and the Mortons (Jerry and Teresa at least) were very popular with you too. One character who was widely disliked was Michelle Connor.

Michelle's effect on Steve...

Last week we asked you who was right in the current situation, Molly or Tyrone (Molly has left Tyrone because of his dodgy selling, which he's only been doing to raise funds for their wedding)? Most of you thought there was blame on both sides, a couple of people said Molly was right, no-one said Tyrone was right, but everybody wants them to get back together again quickly because we want them to be a happy couple.

StreetSign.jpgBig question this week, as it's almost the end of the year. All things considered, has it been a good year on Coronation Street? There have been some low points - the baby-swap story, obviously, and the waste of the Mortons, and some useless characters like the Masons and Lauren Wilson. But there have been some fantastic things as well - the continuing brilliance of some of the actors; new characters like Julie, Pam and Graeme; the reappearance of Jed Stone; the unfolding Carla/Liam/Tony/Maria story and the beautiful farewell that Corrie gave to Liz Dawn back in January have all been highlights for me. Overall I'd say yay, and I'm very optimistic about Corrie under Kim Crowther's leadership. But what do you think? Has it been a good Corrie year? Click the comments link now to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked for your verdict on Carla's purple wedding dress. A lot of you loved it, a lot of you hated it, and many were a bit split in their verdict. Overall, I'd say it was a thumbs-down.

25_07_molly-tyrone-2.jpgThis week it's not a yay or nay as such. I want you to decide whose side you're on. Molly and Tyrone are having relationship difficulties, because he's selling dodgy goods to help raise money for a posh wedding (even though Molly doesn't really want a posh wedding, but he thinks she does). Molly is suspicious of him and suspects there's something going on between him and Minnie the kebab minx. Is she right to be angry? Should she trust him? Should he come clean? Should he have told Auntie Pam to take a running jump with her knock-off items and settled for a more modest wedding in the first place? Serious moral questions, but I'm confident that you can unravel them. Click the comments link to decide who's right - Molly or Tyrone?

03_12_carla2.jpgLast week we asked: is there any way that Tony could stay in Corrie once the truth is out? Over half of the people who replied said yay, and even the people who said nay (on the grounds that nasty people always get what they deserve in Corrie) wished there was a way to keep him because we all love Tony.

Today let's talk fashion, and in particular, Carla's wedding dress. It's purple! Rather a departure from tradition there (though I had to wear a purple dress once when I was a bridesmaid, but that's the '70's for you). Please cast your Gok Wan-trained eye over this magnificent creation (the dress, not Alison King herself) and decide if Carla's dress is fabulous or hideous. Click the comments link to pronounce your verdict!

Last week we asked: are Steve and Becky the perfect couple? There were strong opinions on both sides, but in the end 60% answered with a yay. Cobblestone said "This is the sort of coupling (if you'll pardon the expression!)that has made Corrie legendary."

18_8_tony.jpgThis week we return to that favourite yay or nay topic, good vs evil. It's Tony Gordon I'm thinking about, and particularly a quote from Samia Smith (Maria) in the latest Inside Soap. She says, "I'd like Tony to get his comeuppance eventually - but he's such a good character that we don't want him to leave!" I agree with that remark, but we know that villains have a short shelf-life in soaps. Is there any way that Tony's character could stay in Coronation Street once his crime is discovered? As well as clicking the comments link to say yay or nay, you might like to put your scriptwriting hats on (mine is turquoise for creativity) and work out a way for him to stay.

Last week's yay or nay asked: will Gail and Joe settle down? The view was mainly yay. Christopher said, "Gail is a legend and it is about time she had some happiness, plus I love actress Helen Worth."

10_10_becky-steve.jpgOn to another couple, and this week it's got to be Steve and Becky. There's nothing I'd like better (apart from finding Damon Albarn under my Christmas tree) than seeing Steve and Becky get together, stay together, run the Rovers together, have babies and arguments and laughs and... Ok, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here. And maybe you think I'm entirely deluded and as a couple they're just plain wrong. Vent your feelings by clicking the comments link and having your say, whether it be a yay or a nay: are Steve and Becky the perfect Corrie couple?

Last week's yay or nay invited you to share your opinion on Auntie Pam, the woman who has brought laughter and dubious fancy goods to Weatherfield. And the lady gets a massive thumbs-up from you. Leighton said, "another fresh addition to a top drawer cast," and Rich said Pam is "easily my favourite character since Vera, whom I loved." Let's hope she survives New Year then...

12_11_gail-joe.jpg Moving swiftly on, Gail Platt is currently all loved-up with Joe McIntyre. Their secret love is about to be no secret any more, as the kids catch them mid-snog in tonight's episode. But can you see a long-term future for these two? Gail hasn't had much luck with romance recently, but maybe this time will be different and the Platts and McIntyres will all live together like Weatherfield's answer to the Brady Bunch. What do you think? Will the radiant receptionist and the fit kitchen fitter settle down in 2009? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked: did the identity of Rosie's kidnapper surprise you? And it comes as no surprise that it was a unanimous Nay. I liked Frank's comment: "Stape looks like he could be blown over by Sean Tully, let alone Rosie Webster." Old Ena agreed: "How on earth did he manage to get Rosie in the car anyway... into the house and up the stairs? She is young strong girl as tall as him."

molly-pam-511.jpgSo, moving on from this deeply implausible scenario, let's contemplate the colourful character who is Molly's Auntie Pam. I've picked up various rumblings about her in the Corrieblog comments, so I know quite a few people find her irritating and boring. But I wonder if she has any fans? I find her quite funny, particularly when she has scenes with Jack (currently on an extended stay in the Corrie cupboard) or that lovely scene she had with Blanche where they talked about milk-based desserts. What do you think? Click on the comments link to air your views for and against Weatherfield's answer to Rodney and Del-boy, Auntie Pam.

Last week's Yay or Nay wondered whether you thought Liam's death lived up to all the hype. Overall, the readers, they say Yay but with a few reservations. The performances were outstanding and some people still got a shock with Liam's body went flying over the top of the car (excellent stunt work!). Some people were iffy on the lack of tension building up through the week and how rushed the Carla and Liam love story felt to them.

20_10_rosie-2.jpgThis week, we want to know what you think about the kidnapping of Rosie Webster. Rosie disappeared after she revealed hard evidence to Tony about Liam and Carla's relationship. Tony doesn't take these things well and Rosie subsequently disappeared. Did Tony have something do to with it? Ah, but it turns out that John Stape's taken his misery over his ruined life out on her and snatched her off the street in a moment of madness. He has been keeping her locked in his gran's attic room (conveniently with an ensuite and refrigerator!). Were you surprised that Rosie was kidnapped and the kidnapper was John Stape not Tony Gordon? Tell us if you think this all makes sense or not!

Last week we asked: can Janice be forgiven this time? Old Ena summed up the verdict: "In real life NAY, in soapland YAY. People can do anything to each other and, however bad, it's forgotten in a matter of weeks." There's a wise head under that hairnet.

Unless you were on holiday on Jupiter last week, you'll have spotted it was "murder week" on Coronation Street. Being run over was, perhaps, a poetic end for Liam who'd spent much of his Corrie career driving up and down the cobbles in an unnecessarily noisy car, but did his demise live up to the hype? For me, it was a bit disappointing as I would have liked to see a bigger build-up of tension between Liam and Tony (Liam was more or less oblivious of the evil looks and pointed remarks Tony was aiming at him) and a big showdown between them. On the plus side, I thought it was very dramatic to have the death occurring at the end of the first episode. I was expecting it to come at the end of the second, so it was a shock.

But enough of my waffling - what did you think? Did "murder week" live up to the hype? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week's yay or nay asked: are spoilers spoiling your Corrie viewing? The voting was pretty well split, but the nays edged it with three fifths of the vote. I've taken note of John's comment though and we'll start putting some spoilers after the continue reading link, so people can avoid them if they want to.

08_10_janice.jpgThis week I'm asking you to get your morality hats on and be judge and jury to one Mrs Janice Battersby. She's currently in trouble with the police, dumped by her boyfriend and generally hated by her factory colleagues for scamming them out of their lottery money and obstructing the police investigation into Rosie's disappearance by not revealing earlier that she opened the bank account in Rosie's name. In her favour, at least she did speak up eventually, and is taking full blame in order to spare the apparently heartless Leanne. Is there any way back into the good books of the knicker-stitchers for Janice? The question I'd like you to answer is: can Janice be forgiven this time? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked if there was too much violence on Coronation Street. Surprisingly, the answer was an almost unanimous nay - you all like a good catfight, apparently.

10_10_carla-liam-2.jpgThis week we're anticipating the death of Liam Connor (it's a feeble excuse to show a picture of his chest hair), and so far we don't know exactly how he's going to go. We're also worrying about the whereabouts of Rosie Webster, but in that case spoilers have spoiled it for me because I know where she is. I have to read the spoilers for Corrieblog, but I actively avoid looking at spoilers for my other favourite shows because I don't like knowing what's going to happen ahead of time. Presumably, since you're reading Corrieblog, you quite like knowing what's coming up on the Street, but I'm wondering whether sometimes too much is given away too soon? Are spoilers spoiling your Corrie viewing, or do you love knowing what's going to happen? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Last week we asked, is Rosie Webster worse than David Platt?, and your verdict was nay - she has a way to go before she can snatch the crown from the Prince of Evil.

ken-mike-110.jpgI've just been reading Tvor's latest Corrie slap count, and Weatherfield has been positively ringing with the sound of palms smacking faces. Next week promises more violence, with Sally and Janice having a catfight and Becky smacking Jason and going on a smashing spree. So this week please discuss the question: is there too much violence on Coronation Street? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.
