This one’s for Corrie anoraks (that's me!) and/or the older fans (ditto) who remember times gone by when Lucille Hewitt was on Coronation Street. Lucille was played by actress Jenny Moss who, away from the cobbles, recorded a pop hit called Hobbies. The little ditty has recently been re-released on a compilation CD called Joe Meeks Girls. It must be half decent as Stuart Maconie played it on his BBC Radio 6 show t’other week.
Sally Lindsay, who plays Rover’s barmaid Shelley Unwin on Coronation Street, was spotted at this year’s Brit Awards. The Sunday Mirror Celebs magazine says that Sally was at the awards show cheering on her boyfriend Steve White - who’s the drummer in Paul Weller’s band. You can have a mooch around Sally’s boyfriend’s website here.
Oh My Gawd! Chantelle, the Celebrity Big Brother winner says that wheels are in motion for her pretend band Kandyfloss to become a reality - and she wants Cilla Battersby-Brown in the band! She told Nuts magazine: "I'd like to release I Want It Right Now for Comic Relief so all the money goes to charity. That's what we're trying to sort out at the moment." Asked who her fantasy line-up for the band would be, she said “I'd have Cilla out of Coronation Street. And Pat Butcher. Not so I'd look the best, I just think it'd be proper funny. They both wear candy-coloured make-up anyway.” Yes, but does Cilla have any orange lippy?
If you fancy boogying the night away with Richard Fleeshman, who plays Craig Harris on Coronation Street, then get yourself up to Hexham, where it's all happening. The Hexham Courant says that Soapstar Superstar winner Richard will be visiting the Priestpopple Club in the town on March 10.
One of the earliest items on Corrieblog was this wonderful ska version of the Coronation Street theme tune. Because it’s so good, I thought we’d post it again.
This is music to warm the cockles of your heart. It’s a reggae / ska version of the Coronation Street theme tune and it had me rocking in my chair when I heard it just now. It’s an instrumental by Izzy Royal from 1983 and you can listen to it online here. If you’re not tapping your foot and nodding your head by the end of this absolutely cracking little tune, then you’d better check your pulse because you surely must be dead.
