Who's this cheeky child, then? The face hasn't changed all that much but the hair certainly has. Check back on Friday for the answer if you can't work it out.

I found this beautiful picture while persusing th'interweb. Can you guess which Coronation Street actor this is? It was taken when she was ten years old, and I don't think you're going to have too much trouble working out who it is. I'll post the answer on Friday.

While thumbing through one of my Corrie books, Coronation Street Past and Present, I came across this photo and thought it would be perfect for a caption "competition". Stan Ogden, Dennis Tanner and Jed Stone certainly look like they're up to something and that is bound to be trouble! There's no prize but the photo just begs for a funny caption so put your creative brains to work and go to it!

carlalookeylikey.jpgDo you get people tapping you on the shoulder asking for your autograph all he time because of your stunning resemblance to a Coronation Street star?

Are you a dead ringer for David, Deirdre or Dev? A lookalike for Leanne, Lauren or Liam? The spitting image of Sophie, Steve or Sally? Or bear a vague resemblance to Vernon?

If so, ITV.com is waiting to hear from you. They want Corrie lookalikes to email them with photographs, and the winners will be invited to appear on This Morning, where they will be judged by a member of the Coronation Street cast.

On Friday, we posted a picture puzzle for you and challenged you to guess who the actress in the photo was. The lovely woman is Betty Driver who has played Betty Turpin Williams on Coronation Street for almost forty years. This photo was on sheet music for the song "I'll Walk Alone", and it is up for auction on eBay. The auction ends on Wednesday so you still have time to bid if it's something that you might find collectible. Betty Driver was a well known singer in the forties and fifties before she took to our screens. She's one of our favourites and is still going at age 88! Corrie.net has a bit of information on Ms. Driver's pre-Corrie life here. She actually auditioned for the role of Hilda Ogden in 1964 and then landed the role of Betty Turpin in 1969. What would the Rovers be without Betty's acerbic tongue and hot pot? A sadder place, methinks!

Who is this woman? Here's a photo of a woman who has appeared on Coronation Street as a much loved character over the years. It's from 1944 and was printed on the cover of sheet music. That's your hint. Take the weekend to have a guess. Click on the photo to enlarge it and I'll post the answer by Monday.

Corrie name game

hilda_and_stanley_ogden_laughing.jpgI thought we could have a little fun with character names today. Fans of soap couples in the U.S. have developed a nickname system for their favourite couples by combining letters from both of their names to make one name and refer to the couple by that name. Glenda Young's recent weekly update mentioned her nickname for Liam and Maria as "LiaMaria" and that's what started me on this. I started to make up names, and maybe you can tell which couples can go the distance by how cute the nickname is, I don't know. Roy and Hayley become Rayley (Hoy just doesn't cut it). David and Tina become Tavid or Dina and Sally and Kevin turn into Salevin (sounds a bit like the dude that the Crusaders were all after, doesn't it?) Tyrone and Molly could be Tolly or Myrone and Stan and Hilda, most certainly a supercouple right to the end in my books, would be Stilda. Steve McDonald's name works with Staren (Karen), Stichelle (Michelle) but clearly Sticky (Vicky) just had to come to a ...er... sticky end! I wonder if Lernon (Liz and Vernon) will go the distance? Neither Grian/Brail (Brian and Gail) and later, Mail (Martin and Gail) did. Have some fun with it! Leave a comment with some of your supercouple nicknames!

caketop.jpgI bet you've always wanted the top tier of a wedding cake that features a little statue of Liz and Vernon Tomlin, resplendent in white suits and cowboy hats and a mini drumkit.

This surreal object (and piece of Coronation Street history) could be yours if you're the lucky winner of a competition on the ITV.com website. Click here to enter.

SarahsNose.jpgCan you guess which ex-Coronation Street star this pretty little nose belongs to?

She's one of twelve people shortlisted for The Perfume Shop's Celebrity Nose of the Year. Other nominees include Sir Alan Sugar (what??), Rachel Stevens and her ex Jeremy Edwards, and Cheryl Cole. You can vote for your favourite nose at the Perfume Shop's website, and the winning celebrity nose of 2007 will be revealed on 7 February at a "star studded event in London’s Mayfair."

The Liverpool Daily Post website is running a competition in which you can win a trip to the awards ceremony and a night in a London hotel. To enter, click here. The competition closes on 30 January 2008.

So, have you guessed whose nose it is? Click the "continue reading" link to see if you were right.

VeraPurpleHair.jpgWas the last ten years of Coronation Street all a dream in Ken Barlow's head? Does Vera have a twin sister, also named Vera? These are a few scenarios dreamed up by Spoof.com where a fake news article reports that Liz Dawn changed her mind and wants to come back to Corrie putting the writers in a tizzy. Of course they'll bring Vera back, seeing as she's always been so popular but they have to figure out how! After all, viewers of American soaps are used to characters coming back from the dead all the time, why not introduce it to a British soap? How would you bring Vera back? Would she and Ivy be ghosts in the ginnel, haunting Jack? Would we see her in his dreams as he nods off over his racing form in the evening? Does Vera, in fact, have an evil twin? Comment and give us your most imaginative storylines!

deirdresparklywig.jpgLast Monday we posed a picture puzzle for you to ponder. Nobody seemed to have any trouble guessing that the "corrie-ect" answer is Anne Kirkbride who plays Deirdre Hunt Langton Barlow Rashid Barlow. You probably know that Anne doesn't wear specs in real life (well, in her advancing age, she might do for reading, but I've never seen a photo of her with them on). This photo is from the Street party to greet the Millenium where Deirdre was a last minute substitution in the faux-Abba act. There aren't many scenes with Deirdre sans-specs though she did remove them for her weddings to Ken and Samir. She's quite pretty, isn't she?

vickybinnsdvd.jpgWe've mentioned Vicky Binns' new workout dvd, Dance it Off with Vicky Binns in passing recently. It's available now in stores and online from Play.com and Amazon and pretty much anywhere else that sells recent released dvds. Shop around for your best price. Vicky worked with trainer Rachel Ravenscroft who came up with the dance moves and interval training and she's worked hard. The results are obvious with a two and a half stone weight loss (that's about 35 pounds for us in North America). She's also been following an eating plan which is also featured on the dvd. Silver hotpants are optional.

Who.jpgI came across this photo in an old Coronation Street magazine. It shows a Corrie actor with her father and i think was taken in the late 1980s. A hint: Her father used to create one-panel cartoons for the official Coronation Street magazine which ceased publication a few years back. Can you guess who it is? I'll post the answer next Monday!

Auntie Amy Duckworth?

Comments (7)

0amy1.jpg0hilda1.jpgYesterday we told you about Amy Winehouse's new look, reminiscent of Hilda Ogden with her headscarf. Later on yesteday, the Sun decided to have a little fun with the picture of Amy and put other classic soap hairdos on her photo including a classic Bet Lynch look and a curly Vera mop on her head! The Vera look is a bit scary, they've only photoshopped Amy's eyes, nose and mouth onto Veras rounder face! Maybe we could bring her in as a new character, Aunty Amy Duckworth?

A reminder for those of you that can watch ITV1 tonight, after you watch Liam plunging off a cliff, don't touch that remote! Right after tonight's episode will be a one hour long special, The Funny Side of The Street, to break the tension! There will be clips and interviews with past and present actors recalling some of the comic scenes that Corrie does so well, and you may even see this one pictured here, recently one of our Fab Photos. It's one of my favourites that ended in the bath plunging through the floor and into the living room downstairs after Schmeichel jumped in the tub for a piece of pizza! ITV1 at 8:00 p.m.!

Ken7.jpgOur competition to win tickets to see An Audience with William Roache at the artsdepot in London has now closed.

The correct answer to the question "What was the name of Ken Barlow's brother" is, of course, David. The first correct winner out of my bright red Santa hat was Susan Caria from Osterley, who wins a pair of tickets for the show on 20 January. Congratulations to her!

The show is on 20 January at 7pm, and tickets are £16 (£14 concessions). For more information and to book, click here.

julieH.jpgThere's a great Coronation Street quiz online at Orange.co.uk to challenge you on your trivia knowledge. This quiz is all about Hayley Cropper and a little bit about Julie Hesmondhalgh, her very talented portrayer. Since Tuesdays are all about trivia here on Corrieblog, consider this a little bonus quiz for your amusement. Beware, though, there are some really tough questions!

Ken7.jpgPreviously we told you about Coronation Street legend William Roache's forthcoming one man show, An Audience with William Roache.

The lovely people at the artsdepot, Finchley, north London, have offered us a pair of tickets to go and see the man who has been in Corrie since the very first episode. He'll be talking about his life in and out of the Street, and giving an insider's view of how each episode is rehearsed and filmed.

This competition is now closed. The winner was announced here

The show is on 20 January at 7pm, and tickets are £16 (£14 concessions). For more information and to book, click here.

Coronation%20Street%20cat-thumb.gifOf course you are (a soap opera fan, at least)! You wouldn't be reading this if you weren't! There's a group forming in the London area and they are planning a get together at a pub on January 19 to chat about your favourite soaps. They can only accomodate 20 people so join the group and get your rsvp in soon. They'll be talking about various soaps, not just the best one, Coronation Street but maybe you can make a few converts!

AlexMichelle.jpgJimFace.jpg

Corrieblog reader Diana spotted this. In the picture we recently showed you of Michelle Connor coming face to face with the boy who may possibly be her long-lost son, Diana was more interested in the bottom right-hand corner of the picture.

Look very closely - it's Jim McDonald, so it is!

Hayley3.jpgThe competition to win tickets to see Julie Hesmondhalgh's one-woman show, An Evening with Julie Hesmondhalgh, is now closed. The competition question was: Where were Roy and Hayley married? And the answer was - in the cafe. The winners, who each receive a pair of tickets, are:
Mark Fell
Karen Yates
Anne Green
Helen Cooke

Congratulations to them - I hope they enjoy the show!

The show is on 25 November at 8pm, at Nottingham Arts Theatre. If you weren't lucky enough to win, there may still be tickets available from the box office in George Street. Call 0115 947 6096.
