It's fair to say that Gail, who first appeared in the street in 1974, has been a little unlucky in love! Her marriage to Joe tonight will be her fifth wedding. Husband number one Brian, whom she married in 1979 and again in 1988 was stabbed in a nightclub brawl and number three, Richard Hillman, a pyschopathic murder, died after driving into the canal. Only Martin has survived. With Joe up to his neck in debt the odds for wedding number 4 don't look too great either!

Comments are still not working on Corrieblog. Photos are taking an age to upload as well, which is why some posts may not be illustrated! As we can't do a proper yay or nay this week, I thought I'd do a little poll instead.
These were the words of my favourite TV critic, the Mirror's Jim Shelley, on Friday's wedding episode. "Becky just ruined it - not the wedding, the whole episode." And I have to say, I agree with him. Much as I love Katherine Kelly and the character she plays, the wedding episodes were so over the top they were ludicrous, and Becky turned in one fell swoop from being a flawed character who I could relate to, to being grotesque. "The wedding was a horrible combination of being totally implausible... at the same time as being desperately predictable," according to Shelley, and he points out something that I felt was glaringly obvious - that Becky resisted having a hen night because she didn't want to ruin her big day, and then got so hammered she ruined it anyway. I know that true love is never supposed to run smooth in these things, but good grief.
Not everyone agrees with me and Jim Shelley, of course. Our Tvor certainly doesn't, and regular Corrieblog commenter Peter emailed me (comments on Corrieblog not working at present) to say: This was Corrie in tip top form. Both episodes were superb. Entertaining from start to finish, we kind of followed Becky on an emotional journey before she even made it to the registry office. Katherine Kelly portrays Becky where it is simply impossible not to like her. Her initial link up with the Croppers is paying dividends now as her scenes with Hayley today were very touching and i loved how when Roy gave her away he kept the basket and shopping bag tightly gripped! I cannot wait to see her reaction when she discoveres she never actually got to say "I do!"
Thus spaketh the Registrar and, with that, he did not pronounce them "Husband and Wife". And seriously, can you blame him for refusing to marry them? I have to say, though, these were the funniest scenes on Coronation Street in a long time. Right from the start when she was fitting fake boobs in the dress to enhance her cleavage to the very end when she was carried back home to the Rovers, wilted and nearly passed out, I chuckled the whole way through. I even hooted out loud a few times. I was also touched, as was Sue, at the lovely scenes between Becky and Hayley and later, Becky and Jason. The poor lad, did you see his face when he saw Becky all decked out as the pink fairy bride? You just knew he was thinking it could have been him waiting for that vision of loveliness. And she really was lovely. You'd think that pink confection would have looked really wrong and tacky but I don't think she could have picked anything that suited her better, right down to the red shoes! The tiara was a bit much over that high-pouffed hair, mind you, but I *loved* the hot pink extension she had on one side.
Double episode written by Chris Fewtrell and Debbie Oates.
You know when you go to a party and everyone's drunk, but you aren't because you're driving, or you're on antibiotics, or you just don't drink? That's how I felt watching tonight's episode. Not that everyone was drunk - in fact only one person was drunk, but when that one person is Becky Grainger, it's more than enough drunkenness for a party. A few snifters to calm her nerves as she got ready with Natasha and Hayley (and an absolutely beautiful scene in which Hayley more or less told her she was the daughter she'd never had, and Becky said it was the love of the Croppers that had made all other good things happen to her) - then more drinking with Jason as she hid in the builders' yard so Steve wouldn't see her dress. Then some champagne-spraying on the factory roof. The upshot was that by the time she got to the registry office...
Over at ITV.com it looks like they've had a bit of a revamp, with a brighter, more colourful look. And there's a lot of stuff on there about Steve and Becky's upcoming wedding, including an interview with Simon Gregson, who plays Steve. He takes us through the ups and downs of Steve's previous relationships, and reckons he's "an idiot" for doing it again!
"Pretty much everything's against him, really," he says of the reaction of his best mate Lloyd and his mum to the marriage. On the big day itself, Steve has the classic worry: "Is she going to turn up or isn't she?" Simon reckons that this wedding will be as memorable as Steve and Karen's wedding. "With the lovely Kate Kelly playing Becky as well as she does, you can imagine that there's a lot in store for this wedding," he smiles.
On ITV.com today you can get an early glimpse of the trailer which ITV will be running as the wedding of Steve McDonald and Becky Grainger approaches.
It's to be on Friday 13 March. We know Becky is superstitious about Friday 13th - she wouldn't fly to Tenerife with Jason on Friday 13 February, but maybe she can overcome her superstitions for the right man.
She's looking fabulous - Barbie-pink dress, tiara and a bottle of champagne clenched in her fist. Hayley is putting the finishing touches to the cake. And the groom looks dashing and handsome, if a little apprehensive. Who wouldn't, under the circumstances?
Currently, Steve and Becky are on the outs. Steve is going to attempt to date Natasha the Pointless but it's going to be blatantly obvious that his heart isn't really in it. We know that both Steve and Jason are going to propose to Becky this week and at first, it looks like Jason is going to win the hand of the fair maiden. We also know that the Powers That Be are planning to have Steve and Becky together, true love runs deep, star crossed lovers and all that. So it should be no surprise to any of you that they do, in fact, get together and do, in fact, attempt to get married. Rather quickly. Steve's got form, you will recall, for a hasty wedding. He jumped into wedded bliss with both Vicky Arden and Karen Philips and he must figure why change the habit of a near-lifetime. Thus, behind the cut, are paparazzi photos of Becky in her wedding outfit (or most of it, the top half is covered by a coat) and Hayley's latest wedding outfit, which is typically Hayley, I must say.
Remember the hoo-ha about Corrie crew apparently covering up a cross in the church during Molly and Tyrone's wedding? Despite ITV denying that it was done to avoid offending people, the story rumbles on, with "political correctness gone mad" headlines still popping up.
Corrie producer Kim Crowther and Executive Producer Kieran Roberts have taken the step of writing a letter to The Times which says, "After an extensive inquisition, we have determined that no one on the production team asked for a cross to be concealed or moved during filming for fear of causing offence to other religions." They say that the cross was covered up "during a couple of shots for technical reasons," and that conversations about this may have led to the Rev James Milnes, the church's vicar, "erroneously believing that we had obscured a cross during filming for reasons of religious sensitivity."
The idea that the cross needed to be covered for technical reasons was supported by a vicar who spoke on Radio 4's Today programme on the day this story first broke. She used to be a TV producer, and she said that, had she been working on the show, she would have covered the cross because the lights gleaming off the metal would have distracted the eye from Molly, Tyrone and the vicar, who were supposed to be the main focus of the shot.
(Sorry, I know I promised no more wedding stuff, but...) The furore about Corrie crew concealing a cross in the church at Molly and Tyrone's wedding (which we told you about here) rumbles on and on.
But it was all a misunderstanding, according to a Coronation Street spokesperson, who said, "A member of crew knew that they were dressing the set with candles and flowers and knew this would obstruct the view of the cross. A member of church staff was asked if the cross could be moved. When she asked why they wanted it moving, she was told that Coronation Street didn't want to cause offence to anyone when the scenes were shown. It now transpires that she took this to mean that production felt people would be offended by seeing the cross - when in fact they were concerned that the props were blocking the view of the cross."
I just had a look at it again - and props were still blocking the view of the cross, though you can see it peeking out from behind some candles.
I absolutely and faithfully promise that this is the last Corrieblog post we will eke out of the Molly/Tyrone wedding. It's been a slow news week!
Anyway, the filming of the wedding has apparently caused a religious kerfuffle. The church it was filmed in has a large brass cross on the altar (as churches tend to do), but Corrie bosses are quoted as saying that they thought it might be "offensive" to some viewers. They wanted to remove it, but it's screwed down, so instead they covered it up with candles and flowers.
The vicar, Rev. James Milnes, is not amused, and has written in the parish magazine, "Without the Cross there would be no Church. Our saviour opened wide his arms for us on the Cross and yet in 2008-09 the Church is compliant in obscuring it. They wanted to film a wedding in a quintessentially English church and then empty it of the very thing that makes it a church. I want us to say that obscuring the cross is a disgrace." A Corrie spokesperson has said, "Covering up the the cross was an error and we apologise for any upset."
Granada reportedly paid the church £4,600 to film there, and Rev. Milnes hopes to spend the money on a new, silver cross for the altar.
The first wedding of the year wasn't as sophisticated as Carla and Tony's and neither did it have a dramatic reveal even though it *was* fraught with tension. Would Tyrone make it to the altar or not? Well of course, we knew he would. The spoilers told us so! Spoilers er... spoiled it a bit for Sue but it didn't for me, not one little bit and Ian Wylie is on the same Yay-team as me! The pen of Jonathan Harvey once again delivered what it promised and then some and the actors rose to the challenge admirably, I thought.
There was only one niggling point that bothered me and it compared unfavourably with the Gordon wedding in December. One commenter, Old Ena, put it succinctly, calling the guests a "rent-a-crowd". Carla and Tony, who really have very few friends on Coronation Street, had a good number of Street residents present to see them say I Do. Where was everyone on Monday night?
It was the first Coronation Street wedding of the year last night, when Molly and Tyrone finally got married. On ITV.com today you can see a "behind the scenes" video of the ceremony being filmed, and Vicky Binns (Molly) reveals that it wasn't as glamorous as it looked!
"I've been in make-up since half six," she admits, adding that at times it felt like she was getting married herself, as everyone was wishing her luck. The dress was beautiful (though she was getting bored of it by day three of filming), but January filming poses practical problems: "I've got two pairs of thermals on underneath my wedding dress, brown legwarmers and a pair of boots," Vicky says. Another problem was the horses. "The horses were real divas," she says. "There was poo up the street, and they kept running off. At one point we had the props boys pulling the carriage instead of the horses!"
Tonight we'll see Molly Compton and Tyrone Dobbs finally getting married, and one person who'll have a special interest in the wedding scenes is James Steward. He's the man who designed and hand-made the dress that Molly will be wearing. He says, "I'm really excited. I just hope there's a good view of it. It's also a bit scary because there's going to be 13 million people judging it." The designer, who is based in Leeds, had to take into account that Vicky Binns, who plays Molly, would be wearing the dress for two weeks during filming rather than just for one day as is usual for brides. James Steward has designed clothes for Victoria Beckham and Tara Palmer-Tompkinson, and made red carpet dresses for occasions such as the National Television Awards

Today is Tyrone and Molly's long anticipated wedding day! Here's a few more photos of the wedding couple, in addition to the gallery Sue posted last week!
Molly may be getting hitched on Monday but the woman who portrays her, Vicky Binns, says that Ty and Molly's bumpy road to the altar may have put her right off marriage. She talks about the whole experience to Ian Wylie in the MEN. A traditional wedding is just so over the top and a soap wedding is a long and tedious affair to add on to it. It took two weeks to film all the scenes for the wedding and through it all, Vicky had to wear the lovely wedding dress, designed by her friend, James Steward. Vicky has a boyfriend but isn't ready to tie the knot yet and after seeing all the preparations for a traditional wedding, is pretty sure that's not the way to go for her.
Weddings are very much on the agenda for Alan Halsall (Tyrone) and his fiancee Lucy-Jo Hudson (who played Katy Harris on Coronation Street). Alan's character gets married next week, and next month the character Lucy-Jo plays in Wild At Heart will also get married.
Lucy-Jo has been talking to Reveal magazine about how Alan proposed to her in real life. "It was so beautiful and romantic," she says of the proposal, which happened while they were on holiday in Abu Dhabi. "I was so misty-eyed I could hardly see him. I wanted to scream with excitement!" She's proud of the fact...
The first Corrie wedding of 2009, and it's between two of the nicest characters on the show, Molly and Tyrone. It looks like it's an emotional day for Jack, too. Click on the photo below to see more.
Digital Spy have been getting some great interviews with Corrie cast members recently. The latest is with Alan Halsall (Tyrone), who talks about the bits of Molly and Tyrone's wedding that we probably won't see next week. "Jimmi Harkishin, who plays Dev, went flying on some icy gravestones!" he says. "I've not actually seen it yet, but I'm hoping they've got it on tape!" Despite being arrested just before the wedding, Tyrone does make it to the church on time - but promptly faints at the altar - a scene that caused a bit of a stir during rehearsal. "It was lucky it wasn't a take because Andy Whyment (Kirk) had to leave the church because he was laughing that hard. He was crying with laughter," Alan says.
He also talks about the return to Corrie of Margi Clarke, playing his pink-haired nightmare of a mother, Jackie. "Margi's just crazy. She's a real live wire to be around and she always makes the day fun, as does Jackie the character - she comes in and causes trouble," he says. "It really is great to have her back." He says he'd like to see Margi in the Street permanently as she's such fun to be around, but thinks Tyrone would take a lot more convincing. "Jackie would have to do a lot of grovelling for Tyrone to accept his mum back in his life full-time. At the end of the day, though, she's still his mum and there'll always be that great relationship between the pair of them."
Next week's big storyline on Coronation Street is the wedding of Molly Compton and Tyrone Dobbs. Of course we want it to go well, because they're a lovely couple, and we need cheering up in the January gloom (snow is falling on Corrieblog Towers as I speak).
But this is Corrie we're talking about, so we'd be daft to think any wedding would go without a hitch. And this hitch, as we've already heard, is that Tyrone is going to end up in handcuffs. Vicky Binns (Molly) and Alan Halsall (Tyrone) talk on ITV.com today about what happens. Vicky says, "It all starts really well. She's getting ready with the girls and Auntie Pam, and we get into the horse and carriage and trot down to the church, it's all going very well. Then [outside the church] you see Dev waving and saying 'keep going,' so we have to take a few turns around the church - but I won't tell you why, because that's the other side of where Tyrone ends up."
Alan takes up the story: "Poor Tyrone, he's so easily led," he says. "He gets a phone call from Auntie Pam, and it's yet another of her scams. Tyrone sees the good in everything, and he thinks it's to get money for Jack's pigeon coop, so he decides to do one last deal. But it turns out the bloke he's scamming is a policeman, so he gets arrested on the day of his wedding. I feel sorry for him in many ways but he should know better, really."
The good news is that Tyrone does make it to the church. Alan says, "Here I am, suited, bad haircut, but will it be in time? I don't know."
And will Molly still be waiting for him?

After all the hullabaloo and excitement of yesterday's wedding between Carla and Tony, here's a clip from a 1992 episode of Coronation Street. Rita Fairclough marries Ted Sullivan, although they both know that he has a brain tumour and doesn't have long to live. Hankies ready for this one.
Hour-long episode written by Damon Rochefort
Carla and Tony's wedding, and one of the best Corrie episodes I've seen for ages. Blanche, as always, set the tone, as she grumbled about not being invited. Deirdre pointed out that they hardly knew Carla and Tony. "Amy's father's living with Carla's ex-sister-in-law," Blanche pointed out. "We're practically family."
As Tony, resplendent in his Gordon clan kilt, waited nervously for the arrival of his bride, Janice offered herself as substitute should Carla be a no-show. "Women like me don't grow on trees," she said. Sally replied, "Just swing from 'em." Sally, always happy for a bit of social climbing, was loving every minute of being at a posh wedding - the pink champagne, the opportunity to dress up in a posh outfit. But when, ceremonials concluded and the reception in full swing, a drunk and grumpy Kevin started taking issue with the cost of Sally's dress in front of Carla, it all turned sour...
There's only one episode of Corrie on tonight, and that's to make way for an hour-long episode on Wednesday. And, trust me, you do not want to miss Wednesday's episode - it's Tony and Carla's wedding.
An ITV.com video offers a little peek behind the scenes of filming as the key players in the drama talk about how events unfold. Alison King says that Carla is "feeling safe about Tony," now she's made the decision to put her feelings for Liam behind her.
Tony Gordon, however, isn't feeling quite so safe, as Gray O'Brien explains: "The groom's got a little trepidation because there are a few people there who could make things difficult for him," he says. "He's worried about Maria, Kevin Webster, Rosie Webster, and probably Sally Webster."

As we look forward next week to the wedding of Carla and Tony, the Corrie cast are already filming the next wedding.
Here's Vicky Binns, all wrapped up to keep warm during filming of Molly and Tyrone's wedding. Unlike Carla, she's obviously going for a more traditional white look - but presumably her black boots and white leggings won't be featuring on the big day!

We didn't know if they'd ever make it to the actual wedding, but it looks like Carla and Tony are going to get married after all. And, while the wedding looks blissful, behind the scenes events are taking a dramatic turn. Click on the photo below to see what happens.
