corrie dvd 2000.jpg

Donna-Marie from Manchester

Congratulations to Donna-Marie, who is known on Twitter as @dms1382, we will be in touch very soon to arrange delivery of the prizes.

I know what you're thinking - 'it's too early to release a DVD boxset of Noughties Corrie, it's only just been on'. Well, you couldn't be wronger-er. Dive head first into Network DVD's new release 'The Best of Coronation Street 2000-2009' and you'll soon remember things you've forgotten you've forgot, things you swore happened last week that actually happened 10 years ago and things that seem like they happened sometime in 1986 that actually happened 20 years later. For instance:

corrie dvd 2000.jpg

Richard Hillman killing (or attempting to kill) half of the street before driving himself and the Platts into the canal.

Todd being engaged to Sarah-Lou but trying to kiss her brother (Old) Nick.

KAREN McDONALD!!!!!!! Without a doubt one of Corrie's all-time great female characters. Watch as she marauds round the cobbles bagging Steve, trying to bed Dev, smacking Tracy and doing that weird raised eyebrow thing she had going on. Fantastic.

Charlie Stubbs turning Shelley into a one-room dwelling wreck before ending up on the wrong side of Tracy and the wrong end of a semi-erotic ornament.

Peter Barlow - bigamist!

Maxine and Ashley, then Ashley and Claire.

The Danny Baldwin, Frankie Baldwin, Jamie Baldwin thing that ended uo being just plain weird.

Leanne becomes Manchester's most unlikely prossie.

That polish worker dying in the factory (bet you'd forgotten that one).

The death of Vera Duckworth

The death of Mike Baldwin (AND the his-son-gets-off-with-his-missus storyline, that was a cracker).

Tony Gordon and his eagle eye that soon turned into an evil eye.

David pushes Gail down the stairs (be fair, we've all wanted to do that).

The whole Ryan Connor baby swap storyline that was soon got forgot when everyone realised it was rubbish.

Rosie being a goth! Rosie going out with Craig!

Right toward the end of the decade we even had time for Manuel from Fawlty Towers to turn up as Norris's long-ignored brother and Ken to get it on on a canal with Stephanie Beacham.

See! Plenty of good Corrie gear to get your goggles round!

It's available to buy from Monday on Amazon. Or you can win yourself a copy in our competition.

great north run.jpg Watch out for Craig Gazey, Graeme Hawley and Vicky Binns in this year's BUPA Great North Run. Taking place on September 19th, the 30th Great North Run will feature the Corrie stars as part of the TV Times' 'Banana Army'.

The actors who play Graeme Proctor, John Stape and Molly Dobbs will be running in aid of blood cancer charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma research. Says Graeme Hawley: "There are quite a few soap stars running as part of the Banana Army and we're determined the Street will come out on top."

Adds Craig Gazey: "We're delighted to be part of the world's biggest half marathon and to be helping raise awareness for such a worthy cause."

Featuring 54,000 runners, the half marathon takes place this Sunday (September 19th) between Newcastle and Gateshead. The event will be live on BBC1 and BBC Radio 5 Live.

Let's hope our Corrie stars haven't been doing all of their training in the Rovers Return!

rovers return out of bread.jpg Warburton, the bread people and sponsors of Corrie's 50th anniversary have made the Rovers Return out of bread, as you do. The model was unveiled by onscreen couple Jane Danson and Chris Gasgoyne (Leanne Battersby and Peter Barlow) as they loafed around Manchester's Trafford Centre today.

Artist Lennie Payne - who has been working with bread for over ten years - explained: "This is the biggest project I've ever undertaken and it's been great fun! The work has been extremely intricate - I've even toasted each slice of bread to just the right colour to imitate those infamous red bricks of the Rover's Return!"

Whatever next? The Kabin made out of crisps or the factory made out of matchsticks maybe.

CorrieTeaCosy.jpgAlways wanted a Corrie tea cosy? Grannies Inc. has teamed up with energy company npower to produce a range of cosies designed to encourage our great nation to make a pot of tea rather than mugs.

The idea - of course - is to reduce the number of times we boil our kettles and hence the amount of household energy we use.

Themed to some of our favourite TV shows, various designs are available. Just pop one of these over your pot and do a little something for the environment while enjoying a cup of the good stuff.

The 'Lancashire Hot Pot' Coronation Street cosy is available online at granniesinc.co.uk/cosies.htm for £45, or you can download patterns to knit it yourself.

PAM_HOBSWORTH.jpgHere at Corrieblog, we've been lucky enough to secure an exciting opportunity for our readers. Kate Anthony - better known to viewers as Auntie Pam Hobsworth - is giving us the chance to have a Q&A session with her, to ask her anything we'd like to know!

I'd like to invite you to submit any questions you'd like to ask Kate about her role as Pam, her time on the Street, or anything else about her life and acting career. You can email me your questions, and try to get them in by Tuesday 21 July.

Hope you will make the most of this great opportunity to interact with a star of Corrie, and here's hoping this may be the first of many Q&As!

Tony Gordon's AutographA growing passion of mine over the last couple of years has been collecting autographed photocards from a variety of famous faces. So, sitting bored one grey afternoon in January, I decided to further my collection by opening up to the possibility of collecting autographs from the cast of Coronation Street.

After some light research as to how to go about this, I found the process relatively simple. To receive a signed cast card of a Corrie actor and actress, you simply had to write to the star you wanted requesting an autograph and pop it in the post, along with a SAE. I thought I would give this a go to see if I had any luck, and so randomly selected Gray O'Brien - Tony Gordon - to be my first shot.

A mere ten days later and - hurrah! - success! A familiar envelope dropped through my letterbox containing a photocard of Gray, personalised for me. And so the pen came out once more, and over the next few weeks and months I began writing to each of the 60+ cast members.

bfi-162.jpgOur competition to win tickets to a screening of three archive live episodes of Coronation Street at the BFI is now closed. The winner is Felicity Awdry, who correctly answered:
Who wrote the first episode of Coronation Street? (Tony Warren)
Which royal appeared in the 40th anniversary episode? (Prince Charles)
And who was landlady of the Rovers at the time? (Natalie Barnes).

Thanks to all who entered. Tickets are still available for the event on 24 February - more details here.

first-episode-102.jpgHere's your chance to see some classic episodes of Coronation Street on the big screen in the plush surroundings of London's BFI.

On 24 February they'll be screening two episodes from 1961 which were transmitted live. This will be followed by the episode from 2000 in which Corrie was transmitted live again to celebrate its 40th anniversary. More details here.

The BFI is generously offering a pair of tickets for this event.

This competition is now closed.

thomas-craig-231.jpgTo "celebrate" (ie promote) the new series of The Murdoch Mysteries, the Alibi channel is offering the chance for viewers to attend a private preview screening in London. Former Coronation Street star Thomas Craig (previously Corrie's Tommy Harris), who stars in the show, will host the screening and winners will have the chance to chat to him about his new show, his old show, and anything else that springs to mind. And, if that wasn't incentive enough, there'll be champagne.

Pop over to the Alibi website for more details.

out-of-africa-1912.jpgDon't despair if Santa doesn't bring you the much-craved Corrie spin-off DVD Out of Africa. You can have mine! No, I'm joking. Santa knows me better than to bother trying to struggle down my chimney with any recorded media featuring Cilla Battersby-Brown in his sack.

But if you would like to get your hands on a copy, click yourself over to the MEN's website where they are giving away ten copies in a competition that's so scarily easy even Kirk could probably get the answer (though it's cheating a bit in his case considering he's in it).

tony-mask-1710.jpgOur close personal friends over at Digital Spy have been schmoozing the stars yet again, and have acquired six of those ultra-creepy Tony Gordon masks - personally signed by Tony Gordon himself, Gray O'Brien. You can win one of these items by entering a scarily simple competition here.

The competition closes on 22 October, which means that the lucky winners will probably be in possession of their prize well in time for Halloween. Just the thing for trick or treating!

If you don't win, you can still create your own Tony face. Click here for a downloadable one.

qualitystreet.pngYou may have already seen the ad on television. Quality Street in Canada is holding a competition and they are giving away three trips to the UK including an exclusive visit to the Coronation Street studios. They're also giving away 120 Corrie trivia DVD games. They launched their campaign at a get together (aka a "ping") in Toronto last month but the contest didn't officially open until today. All the particulars of the contest and how to enter are on their website here. It's only open to Canadian residents. The contest runs from today until December 31.

Click through to read some of the rules.

test-card.jpgThis isn't strictly Corrie-related, but a competition is currently running to find Britain's biggest TV fan, and I reckon Coronation Street viewers are in with as much chance as anybody.

  • Have you changed your job or lifestyle following a storyline on your favourite show? Maybe you've followed David Platt into the world of hairdressing... then back out again.

  • Are your kids named after a well-known TV character? Maybe you have twins called Roy and Hayley, for example (please say you don't).

  • Have you gone to extreme lengths to catch a glimpse of your favourite TV star in real life?

  • Did you rearrange an important holiday or even your wedding so you could be in front of the telly for Sarah and Jason's wedding?

  • Is your home decorated in the style of the Rovers Return?

If you can answer yes to any of the above, or can claim any other deranged, telly-based behaviour, you could win a giant plasma TV and a year's worth of Virgin Media's VIP services. Just pop an email to toptellyfan@ptarmiganpr.co.uk

t'rovers.jpgCharity auction site Buy Once Give Twice is currently running a great auction. The winner and three friends will get a trip around the Coronation Street set, accompanied by none other than William Roache MBE, who will act as tour guide. There may also be a chance to meet other Corrie cast members and watch some filming.

The idea of Buy Once Give Twice is that people donate things they've already won in charity auctions to the site, so the charities benefit twice. Most of the proceeeds from this auction will go to the charity Time4Women.

All the details about how it works and how to bid are on the site here. The reserve price for the auction is £2,000, but it's a once in a lifetime chance, so get bidding!

Or, if you don't have that much money lying around, you could always bid for Cilla Battersby-Brown's poncho.

Are you a dead ringer for David, Deirdre or Dev? A lookalike for Leanne, Lauren or Liam? The spitting image of Sophie, Steve or Sally? Or bear a vague resemblance to Vernon?

If so, ITV.com is waiting to hear from you. They want Corrie lookalikes to email them with photographs, and the winners will be invited to appear on This Morning, where they will be judged by a member of the Coronation Street cast.
