So it seems that Corrie will be 'celebrating' its 50th anniversary with a crash, bang, wallop as the viaduct at the end of the street collapses, causing a tram to career off the bridge and onto the cobbles, killing several Weatherfield residents.
Announced today, the 50th anniversary disaster storyline will strike fear into the hearts of Coronation Street actors who haven't yet signed a new contract with executive producer Phil Collinson (Craig Charles should be breathing a huge sigh of relief, then).
Exact details of the special week of episodes to be screened during the build up to the anniversary on December 9th are being kept under wraps. And security will be tight as producers keep the identity of those who will lose their lives a closely guarded secret.
Apparently Metrolink bosses at GMPTE in Manchester have been working with the soap to make the storyline as authentic as possible.
Even cast and crew do not know which Weatherfield residents will be killed in the disaster which will be the biggest stunt Coronation Street has ever staged. Even bigger than the recent Underworld fire scenes which I thought were a bit of a damp squib.
Special effects experts who worked on Gladiator and Doctor Who (Phil Collinson's old programme) have been brought in by to ensure the crash is as sensational as possible.
Says Corrie producer Phil Collinson:
"As we celebrate the show reaching such an incredible milestone it feels fitting that we will be screening a dramatic event of this magnitude which will affect the lives of all the residents of Coronation Street.
"We'll be using all the wonders of modern television production to bring you a disaster that will rock the lives of everyone in Weatherfield.
"At the heart of the drama though will be ordinary people on an ordinary street battling adversity - the template for the programme created by Tony Warren 50 years ago."

I don't think that you should kill of Sophie and Sian since there story has only just really come to life.
would be good too see a bit more of there story through the stages of them telling their family's and everyone else.

I agree. I only started watching Corrie for Sophie and Sian. Even if they ended their relationship (which...please don't) it would be foolish to lose such great actors. Brooke and Sasha have always played beautifully off of eachother... there's good chemistry between them... but they're just excellent actors anyway. I echo the comments of before. No point in watching Corrie if they're gone
As far as I'm concerned they could kill off most of the Corrie characters and start fresh. The Street has become boring and predictable. Just when they get a decent storyline it either becomes foolish or unbelievable and way over the top. Corrie has suffered from dumb storylines in the past year or so also.. Examples, John Stape story, Maria and Tony story, Kevin and Molly story (yuck, double yuck). Norris was just plain nasty with his brother. I haven't seen the Sophie story yet but I hope it's a good as you are all saying. I love Sophie Webster but the rest of her family can just go far away. Anyways we'll see who gets killed off.
It's going to be a very good episode. With many of them dying on coronation street... If there are many.. Then going to be new characters... Think I may just leave it be and never Watch it again... I absolutely love sophie and sian! if the producers got rid of either one of them i reckon that corrie would lose or create a lower fan-base for themselves. Can i just say getting rid of sally webster and gail platt would make my time watchin corrie a better time! :)
Have watched since first episode 100 years ago, Sophie Webster is the worst actress I have ever seen, hope she is off the show. as for the rest, love Corrie will never stop watching even if we are several months behind in Canada

I can't stand Dev's antics so wouldn't be unhappy if he goes. The Molly and Kevin storyline is also really dumb. If he's committed to Sally again then let it be. Also John Stapes - what a dud. Hope he goes. Tracey Barlow coming back? Let's hope not or else have someone else acting the part - the last one was disasterous. Other than that, love Corrie and always will.

Personally I have stopped watching corrie properly this last year, it's lucky if I see one full episode a month. I think its gotten boring and predictable like someone above said, the only decent story this year has been the Tony/Maria/Carla/Liam story. The rest have been ridiculous, the John/Rosie story was good when it first came out, but now it's just plain stupid. And Sophie and Sian's relationship, to be honest I liked it when Sian was with Ryan, I feel sorry for him now and I just don't think it adds much to the show...

Well i read the corrie spoiler and it says they have advertised many fake spoliers so people don't know who dies, except they said Molly and Ashley die for definate, also that Clare want's to leave so it's possible that she could die. Molly gets crushe by the rubble and Ashley chocks to death from the smoke. Baby Jack doesn't die he ends up living with Sally and Keven but Sally has an affair with Tyrone maybe?. 2 other people die but no one knows who that will be so everyone is going to have to wait and see.
