It's been a strange week for Corrie this week. Instead of episodes every day - sandwiched between Britain's Got Talent's semi-finals and its results in the hope of boosting Corrie's ratings - we've had to make do with Harry Hill's not very funny TV Burp at 9pm.
The decision to pull Coronation Street was taken because of the truly terrible shootings in Cumbria and seemed to receive a great deal of support from viewers via Coronation Street's Facebook page (at least at first - though after three postponed episodes it seems the mood is changing).
I can fully understand why the decision was taken given that Tony Gordon is portrayed as a crazed psychopathic killer in the latest episodes. But does this mean that every time horrific murders are committed that any drama containing shootings should be pulled?
As one woman on Coronation Street's Facebook page puts it:
"I am from Whitehaven, wishing that coronation street was on. Just to take our mind off what has happened here. The story line isn't going to hurt us anymore than we already are. i just want some normality. even for just 30 mins. x"
And what about violent films or video games - should they also be withdrawn from screening or pulled from shelves too? And just how long should we give before the nation stops mourning and goes back to its normal duties.
If it is about showing respect for those who have lost their loved ones as many people think, then surely getting enjoyment watching Britain's Got Talent or Harry Hill's TV Burp at a time when these people are grieving is just as disrespectful.
Anyway, no matter where you stand on the decision, the good news is that Coronation Street is back at 7pm on Monday when you can tune into the ongoing hostage siege and also Gail's murder trial.

Sadly Coronation Street has taken a nose dive. I have watched the programme for 40 years but the latest stories are so unrealistic and far removed from day to day life that they are not enjoyable anymore. No normal human being can relate to the fiction you are coming up with these days.....come on, get in touch with reality before it's too late and you lose all your viewers to Emmerdale.
