I guess most Corrie fans, myself included, are wary of change and suspcious when words like 'modern' and 'lively' are used to describe new title shots. So I think it's fair to say that these new title shots are going to take some getting used to.
I thought they might have 'modernised' the music too - given it a bit of a drumbeat perhaps like some of the Coronation Street variations on YouTube. But if anything the music sounds a litttle more old fashioned with more of a 'swing' feel.
But I'm not sure about these titles - yet. I can see what they're trying to do with bustling scenes of Manchester rather than the all too cosy cobbles, but it all seemed a little, well, blurry and disjointed. At first I didn't even realise it was Manchester - it felt more like London's Piccadilly Circus.
Anyway this is what Coronation Street's executive producer Kieran Roberts has to say:
"In our new titles Coronation Street remains the star but we see it as part of a busy, modern Manchester through our opening shots. The overall feel is livelier, more intimate and more colourful and they look stunning, especially in high definition. We think the new titles have a classy, classic, timeless quality but at the same time feel vibrant, fresh and very contemporary. That combination is exactly what we strive for in the show itself."
You can see the new opening titles here.
And you can have your say on Corrie's Facebook page here.
Certainly the Facebook feedback so far doesn't seem to be that great.
Says Nicole Sowter: "NOOOOO, its RUBBISH, sack the person that did this, I cant focus on it at all.... everything is blured it the back ground, can you imagine your faithful older viewers when you run this... they will be grabbing their reading glasses. You can't see the cobbles just some blooming flowers and a post box!!!! and as for the opening scene a blurred taxi ..."
Adds Patricia Hallard: "The cat is ok but its not the BLACK cat? Not sure about the blurriness?. I've been watching since the first episode and dont mind change but would like it to be clearer and not a shot of the flowers at the end of the street outside the shop a more definite picture of the new manchester would have been better! Lol missed the yellow T shirt as well."

Leave Coronation Street alone! Idiots with "new visions" aren't needed. Don't ruin a good thing because of some "hotshots" ego. You didn't create "street", where do you get off changing it. Why do you think ratings are down.....look at what your improvements have already done. You should be sacked!
I dont mind the credits. There was a ginger cat for years in the sevnties and eighties HOWEVER the music is terrible! They have even shortened the final fanfare. Change it back ASAP!!!!!!!
This new title is an absolute ruin! Nobody likes it; bring back the old one immediately. They say the reason why they have done this is because it looks stunning, especially in high definition; in my opinion it just looks like a blurred mess. When I first saw it I had the TV on mute, because of this, I did not know it actually was Coronation Street until that sloppy angle of the rovers return came up! The first two shots look like a blurred London, the post box and flowers are enough to make me want to jump off a cliff, and then there’s the issue with the ginger cat; what happened to the black cat? To put the icing on the cake they had to go and add some obviously computerised pigeons, all that’s enough to make anyone go and shoot themselves. Change it back now!
Some things aren't meant to change: sherbert lemons, the recipe for rice pudding and the corry opening. To be fair to the designer, they did a fair job, but it reminds me of a cross between a pop video and a kiddies T.V show. I half expected one of the pigeons to turn around and wink at me!
We live in a world of too much change. We miss the solid, reliable comfort of the old one. BRING IT BACK!!
The new titles are dreadful, and far from looking great in HD, they look terrible. Who thought it would be arty to have them out of focus??
And the new music has lost all it's pathos by getting rid of real instruments. It's cheap, tacky, and needs changing. It ruined last nights episodes as all I could think about was how awful it had been!

Hate it, hate it, hate it!! How dare they mess with something which is an institution. It's as bad as changing the Dr Who theme.
Awful music and visuals. It doesn't need this treatment, please put it back.
No respect for regular viewers!
I feel absolutely compelled to complain! The new, alleged 'modern' music is awful and who's idea was it to blur the pictures? Life is too short to spend it squinting to see if the cat has fallen through the hole in Carla's roof?? Please, please change it back as a matter of urgency.
Hope the new titles/music only for this special week please? Am 39 & watched corrie since I was about 7. U can't change it! Noooooooooo!
they changed it a little bit like two years ago and it was quite good but this one is poop. looks cheesey. looks like a students made it. a failing student. one who has now dropped out of education because of the shame this title sequence has made them feel.
basically its s**t.
Kieran Roberts = Numpty. Should have gone to SpecSavers.
Tony Gordon = Your next victim is Kieran Roberts. And hurry it up please.
DJ Corrie MixerDeskMan = "Nuls points". Stick to your ice cream van jingles from now on. Got a BTEC in Music did you?
The titles, fair enough, theyve been changed before. BUT to change the iconic music - NO!! Its awful-like has been said its weak and tacky and to change that fanfare and crescendo at the end and the into into the ad breaks is AWFUL. Its not their theme tune to change - it belongs to the loyal viewers. All we can do is write to Granada and hope they see sense and restore the proper theme not this chaep parody that sounds like a cast member's intro for a chat show appearance. The magic has gone without the theme-no matter how poor the epidose, it was still Coronation Stret. Not now though. Please lets all try get it changed back and write in to complain!!
CHANGE IT BACK
Yes lets complain, if enough people complain they will have to change it back.
I have emailed itv and had a nice reply from the Granada duty office saying they will forward my comments. My main gripe is the THEME TUNE tune-the titles have to be changed periodically but the the theme NEVER.
Please write/phone/email Granada or itv and see if we can have our beloved theme tune restored-it worked for EEnders a few years ago.Lets all stick together and contact them and get our music back!!
LEAVE IT ALONE ,CHANGE IT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS,WHY DID YOU DO THIS???
Was there any need for a new opening, it is rubbish, so i just ignore the opening, it is like the very old opening to emmerdale.
old music and blurred images - whats the point? leave it well alone, it looks like a bad documentary on manchester
Bring back the old corrie, bring back our cat! Who's clever idea was this? let me guess you spent about £100k to come up with a new modern start to the programme? well it sucks, please back the old and much loved titles and music. Thanks!
The "new" music for Corrie is awful ... the unnatural vibrato sounds like a Bontempi organ from Woolworths in the 70s. Poor Eric ... what an injustice !!
It will be some degree type trying to prove they deserve a salary. Change is fine but only for the better, it shows me time and time again that there is very little natural talent out there now. TV seems to recruit University bods desperate to put there own so called artistic talent to the test where the viewer suffers what with the new crop of shaky cluttered camera shots stolen from Hill Street Blues days and this latest mistake is typical.
Why change for the worse, HD but blurred shots and a terrible remix, sack em!
The new titles give me a headache, they are blurry, that looks great in full HD..... NOT!!!!
Too many pigeons, its rubbish, please PLEASE bring the old one back now, or provide a migrane warning before showing them.
Bring back the old Corrie theme tune and opening shots!!!!!!!!!
The new one is awful.
Change it back, blurry images and a crap theme tune now. I hate it!!
HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT. Even the filiming has changed. Bring back the old Corrie, please..............
Dreadful change!!!
The new music is awful. Please change it back immediately!
The new theme tune is horrible, change it back!
The original Coronation Street theme music was recorded by a proper orchestra not like the new version which is an insult to Eric Spear, I remember a few years ago management at Granada said the theme music would never be changed pity they did not stick to their word.
The new titles/music are professionally made but they are not in-keeping with the show; indeed, they seem more nostalgic and less realistic. The music, particularly, will always be difficult to modernize given the slow beat but the new version sounds too cosy, too 'chocolate box' perfect which I thought was not the image Coronation Street wanted to portray - especially over the last fifteen years or so when storylines have become increasingly dramatic, violent and sordid. No, for titles, let's see some of the new Manchester #the new Salford development# together with the poorer areas in montage panning to the ficticious suberb of Weatherfield #special effects can do wonders here# and ending with the Street itself. Return to the old music. I've stopped watching this years ago - too many characters, characters that have been in it for too long having too many improbable things happening to them - a fresh start for 2011? Let's hope so.
Absolute rubbish . How can someone keep there job writing unbelievable scenes. And Wat bad acting , I am sure this is because the actors don't believe the story line .
Not one positive comment here… can’t the officials see that we loath the, to be honest with you, s**t new titles! Let’s start 2011with bringing back the old Coronation Street titles.
I also noticing some of the scenes are "milky" in the program. I dont know how else to describe this effect - I keep checking whether I need to clean my glasses.
I have watched Coronation Street on & off since the first episode.
I now live in Canada where my wife & I watch regularly, what a great diapointment in the new music & titles, bring back the old music & refocus the the images.I do like the HD
I am sorry but I do not like the new opening. The old one reminded me of the times I sat with my Grandmother and watched
please keep posting your reviews….
I want more reviews on different topic.I love to watched coronation street on
