Coronation Street snubbed by Royal Television Society

Amazingly EastEnders, Casualty and even the Bill have all been nominated at the Royal Television Awards. But Coronation Street, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, has not even been shortlisted for the Best Soap/Continuing Drama gong.

But it seems that Britain's best soap is taking it on the chin. A Coronation Street spokesperson told Digitalspy: "The three nominees have had an excellent year and fully deserve their nominations. We are very excited about the year ahead and have some fantastic storylines planned as we head towards our 50th anniversary. We have, of course, already been recognised with our National TV Awards win in January."

Meanwhile, reality show Britain's Got Talent will battle it out against The X Factor and Newswipe with Charlie Brooker under the best entertainment show category, while Ant and Dec are up against Harry Hill and Michael McIntyre for the best entertainment performance.

The prestigious awards ceremony will take place at London's Grosvenor House on March 16.
