Blackpool residents are up in arms as a result of a Coronation Street storyline which sees Peter Barlow's son Simon go missing in the town. One sarcastic comment to the local paper The Gazette says: "Well showing the child of visiting holidaymakers going missing in Blackpool's back streets should give a huge boost to the town's plans to attract families to the resort."
The plot, which sees six year old Simon go missing on a trip with his grandfather George Wilson and wife Eve, echoes a previous planned storyline which involved baby Freddie Peacock being snatched from his bedroom by a family friend. However, this plot was later scrapped because of 'disturbing similarities' to the McCann case.
Thankfully it seems this latest storyline is nothing like the last. Simon walks off of his own accord near North Pier and spends a whole night alone in the scary streets. But although the action goes on over a few days we are assured there is a happy ending.

an unhappy ending would be better. kids get in the way.
by the way that the guardian (born in manchester, of course) referred to corrie as "the yorkshire soap". I sent them a letter about it, but not printed. maybe they were embarrassed. or maybe they didn't notice.
What a ridiculous reaction from Blackpool residents. The location is not to blame for Simon walking off: it could have happened in any town or city. If they had any sense they would have worked with the show to promote how well the city would react in such a situation, and all the agencies that are in place to help find a missing child. That would help attract families!
im so glad he comes bck!!!
