It's all going to go off in Coronation Street next week when Julie Carp discovers that Colin Grimshaw is actually her father - making her Eileen's sister and Jason's aunt! Even worse, this comes after she's just been indulging in a spot of romancing with the aforementioned nephew - ooh-er!
Katy Cavanagh, who plays Julie, is in an ITV.com video today talking about how the plot unfolds. "It's Colin's 70th birthday party in the Rovers, and Colin proposes to Rita," she says. "Julie's mum Paula arrives looking for Julie and they have a big row, resulting in this horrific information that's got a massive effect on lots and lots of people." She says the news forces Julie to re-evaluate her identity, and that the scenes were very emotional to play. "You do take it home if you spend a long day doing emotional scenes," she says, but she loves being in Coronation Street. "This is going to be twelve months of me being here, and I've just loved it," she says, adding that Julie has been a brilliant character to play.
Paula's revelation also has a huge impact on Eileen, and Sue Cleaver, who plays her, says Julie isn't someone she'd have chosen as a sister. "It's so unfair. Julie is so Pollyanna, and that makes Eileen wants to slap her. She's everything Eileen isn't. Eileen's a realist." Luckily Sue doesn't feel the same about Katy, and really likes working with her and loves the storyline. "The ramifications are going to be really interesting," she says.
