Last week we asked: do you vote in soap awards? It obviously wasn't my most brilliant yay or nay topic, as only ten people managed to respond, but generally the response was a yay.

This week, there's been some discussion in Corrieblog comments about the man I can't help thinking of as "cousin Tom." You know who I mean, anyway. Since his arrival in the Street he hasn't been given that much to do - a bit of banter with Liam, an embarrassing incident with Sean, and currently some business negotiations with Luke Strong. If Luke does buy him out of LadRags, there won't really be anything left for him to hang around for. So does he deserve a bigger storyline of his own? Is he a character who could continue to play a significant part in the Street, or are his days numbered? Nay. Spare parts, always was. Once Liam died, there really was nothing for him. His days are numbered i'm afraid.
We'll just have to see what happens, I would say 'Yay.' but being honest there isn;t really much for him left on the street, but I could be wrong, maybe they'll come up with a good storyline...
Tom?? Tom who??
LOL! Apparently his surname is Kerrigan. He'll always be "cousin Tom" to me.
It's a 'yay' for me, I'd like to see him stick around. He could take on a flat in Victoria Court (as far as I'm aware we don't know where he lives? correct me if I'm wrong).
I would like a storyline with him perhaps hooking up with Kelly, killing two underused birds with one stone.
I don't think Tom's days are necessarily numbered. When Carla comes back and (presumably) tells Maria that Tony confessed to her about Liam's murder, naturally it will be a shock to Maria that she was actually right all along and I think Tom will end up being there for her in the end. So there could be a reason why they are keeping Ton in the background for now.
Yay. I'd love to see him stick around!
I would say YAY. If they're keeping Michelle, who no longer has anything on the Street, and they keep shoving her at people day after day, then I think they should also keep Tom, since that means Liam's death isn't a reason to write Connors out. There are also a lot of other characters who seem to have no real story (Poppy, Minnie, Sean, Kelly). The show needs leading men in this age range, especially since some of those they currently have may either be temporary characters (Luke) or do to their crimes, almost have to be temporary (Tony). Tom's handsome (to me), played by a decent actor, has ties to Sean, Tony, Maria, Michelle. I don't know why they can't come up with material for him.
YAY YAY YAY YAY
Definately a YAY. There is plenty of scope for his character if the producers and storyliners decide to invest in his character, rather than just casting him aside.
It bugs me when people say there isn't anything left for him. Why not? Why can't something be created for him and allow his character to evolve and develop? I said in previous comments he could develop a relationship with another character. Maybe even Sean or someone else. Tom has charisma, he certainly has charm and he is very pro-active. Let us see more!
Get rid. Boring, dead weight.
Yay, I think he could be Sean or perhaps Luke's new love interest. I just can't see him with any women. He's a sensitive soul so I hope he's there for Maria.
I don't know . . . the jury's out. I wouldn't have said I am bothered either way! He doesn't offend me but I don't really notice if he's not there.
Does anyone else think he's a dead ringer for Paul Connor who left though? They are really similar facially!!
Mia xx
We have yet to meet Tom in Canada but I see a resemblance to Ryan around the eyes and in the set of his jaw. Have those two had many scenes together? Also what is his relationship with Michelle? He is quite good looking, look forward to his arrival on our screens.
Nay,why is he still on corrie?
Yay. Absolutely. I just don't feel he has been treated as a proper at-home Corrie character. As Craig says, we don't even know where he lives. I always thought it was at Maria's but it seems not.
His only other family connections to the Street are Michelle and Ryan (who I cannot for the life of me understand why is still being kept on when he does absolutely nothing) and it's like they are not even related. I can only remember two scenes with him and Ryan since Tom arrived (Stag-Do and Liam's funeral) and there feels no relation between him and Michelle at all. Not to mention in a recent Rovers scene after the whole Steve/Becky saga was exposed, Becky served his table and he didn't even batter one of his long eyelashes!
One reason this is down to is because of his two month absence, during which Michelle and Maria both had pretty big moments, and he wasn't present for either, which I know myself and a few others believe did damage to his character. Maria going out of her mind in the Rovers (in her jim-jams!) and he was nowhere to be seen or at all mentioned, despite stating (to Ozzy LOL) he would look after her. I know this was down to P-McG being in panto but no explanation was offered to his absense.
But I did enjoy his relationship with Liam though, the way he would follow him around like a puppy. He did seem to be there for him more than his closest family, and I think was shut out of visiting Liam's body as Carla was by the vile Mrs. Connor. This could be interesting when the Tony reveal occurs, if Tom is still around by then, to see how he reacts.
Nay,get rid,why should he have a storyline when theres better actors like Betty,Emily,Kelly,Janice thats been on corrie longer and hasnt had a big storyline.
YAY YAY YAY! The guy is fabulous. Daft Maria, Michelle and Ryan should get shot by Tom :-)
