Double episode written by Julie Jones and Joe Turner
Peter Barlow, drunk, set fire to his flat with a dropped ciggie in tonight's Coronation Street. As the flat filled with smoke, little Simon rang granny Deirdre to find out his address so he could ring the fire brigade, bless him. Deirdre rushed into the Street, and a heroic Luke Strong (ooh!) and Tony Gordon rescued Simon and Peter. Luke was so heroic he even went back to get Leanne the rabbit. "I always go back for the wabbit," he told Tony. Simon is in intensive care and not very well at all - could this be the wake-up call Peter needs? And could it be a wake-up call for Ken, who was enjoying pineapple upside-down cake with Martha while all this was going on?
"What could possibly go wrong?" wondered Dev about his genius plan to get Minnie to buy some of Tara's artworks. He was laughing as he said it...
because things always go wrong in soaps. Tara walked in to the Corner Shop just as Minnie delivered the pictures to Dev, (just missing his speech about how much he loved her and believed in her), and she's totally humiliated and has packed her bags. Dev - who we must remember really, really loves Tara and really, really believes in her) went straight over to t'Rovers, chanced upon Lisa the Boring Accountant, got drunk with her and took her back to Victoria Court. Oh, Dev.
The Julie/Kirk relationship seems to be almost out of steam. He wants to get a job, get a house, have a family. She wants him to get a job, but doesn't want the other bits. She probably doesn't want Kirk either. He's distracted though by discovering that Chesney has been bunking off school.
Eileen introduced her dad Creepy Colin to her friend Paula. Paula the friend who left school early due to being pregnant by a mystery man. Paula the mother of Julie. Paula the woman who was very snappy with Creepy Colin and told him he should be over his womanising ways at his age. There's history there.
