Double episode written by Chris Fewtrell and Debbie Oates.
You know when you go to a party and everyone's drunk, but you aren't because you're driving, or you're on antibiotics, or you just don't drink? That's how I felt watching tonight's episode. Not that everyone was drunk - in fact only one person was drunk, but when that one person is Becky Grainger, it's more than enough drunkenness for a party. A few snifters to calm her nerves as she got ready with Natasha and Hayley (and an absolutely beautiful scene in which Hayley more or less told her she was the daughter she'd never had, and Becky said it was the love of the Croppers that had made all other good things happen to her) - then more drinking with Jason as she hid in the builders' yard so Steve wouldn't see her dress. Then some champagne-spraying on the factory roof. The upshot was that by the time she got to the registry office...
the registrar refused to marry her. Only she was too drunk to realise this, and as we speak she believes she's Mrs McDonald. Steve carried her back into the Rovers - not in the sense of carrying her over the threshold, it was more of a fireman's lift because she could no longer walk. Blanche happily claimed her prize money from Eddie Windass.
Gail went looking for Joe and found him in a right state at the lock-up. He's a very proud man, though, and refused to accept her help, saying he didn't want pity.
Elsewhere Gail (Helen Worth) is worried about Joe (Reece Dinsdale) and shocked when she finds him dishevelled in the lock-up. Joe is overcome with emotion as she hugs him and asks him to come home. One couple still struggling to get things back to normal are Joe (Reece Dinsdale) and Gail (Helen Worth). She pleads with him to give the relationship another go and tells him she knows all about the depression but Joe doesn't seem to want to listen.
Tony offered to help Maria work out whether to sell LadRags to Luke or not, and Maria has now completely changed her mind about him, and thinks she was crazy to suspect him of murder.
