Last week we asked: do you watch every episode of Coronation Street? An overwhelming 80% of you said yay, with some people going to great lengths to make sure they don't miss a single episode.
In a yay or nay two years ago we asked if anyone liked Carla (who at the time was a newish character), and the response was very mixed. As time went on, the reaction to Carla warmed up, and now that Alison King is about to go off on maternity leave, I'd like to ask: will you miss Carla? I will - I love her mix of feistiness and vulnerability, ruthlessness and kindness, how she can be so sophisticated but the way she talks sometimes lets her rough upbringing show through. What about you? Are you glad of a respite from raven hair, or will you be counting the days till Carla's return? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Nay! She has been irritating from day one. Her voice got on my nerves. She can't act. The storyline is over so I must say YAY! and YAY again! Worsed storyline ever in any soap!
I'm definitely going to miss Carla. She and Becky both remind me of the strong, complex heroines of Corrie's early years. She may not be as brilliant a character as Elsie, or Ena, or Annie, but she's pretty darn good. We don't have to be told how to feel about her. She makes us feel so many different emotions, and whether we love her or hate her, we're always feeling SOMETHING. The show had gotten away from strong woman figure because in recent years, most of the stronger women had started to run out of storylines, while many of the women who had storylines were either victims, or tarts, or panto villains.
When the Connors were cast, I doubt Corrie had any idea Paul and Liam would be gone so quickly, but I think it's paid dividends for Carla.
I'll miss her so much. I think she's the best thing Corrie has got going for it at present, she's just a fabulous character. Counting down the days for me! YYYYAAAAAYYYY
I will definitley miss Carla - she's a brilliant character and Alison is a terrific actress. I love the way she can have a luagh with the girls, but then get down to business, and she also has a good heart undernneath all that toughness and I think that's how we can relate to her, she'll be missed and her return will be another highlight for corrie.
NAY!! Definitely not. I didn't like her when she first appeared and still don't. I won't miss her in the slightest and only wish that she would decide to stay home and look after her child so that I would never have to see her again.
Yes, I'll miss her. She has just the right amount of feistiness. It'll be very quiet on the street without her.
I love Carla, best character!
Yay! I didn't like her much when she was first on but she's really growing on me. She's softened up just a bit though still has her bitchy tough side. I'd like to see her and Leanne's friendship continuing once both actresses get back from mat leave, Carla needs to have at least one friend that she can talk to!
Yay. As a viewer in Canada I have yet to see a kind side to her. I don't like the character at all and would not miss her one bit.
Nay, nothing against Alison or the character of Carla who I can take or leave but when a character goes, you get involved with others and they are soon forgotton about.
Yay. I didn't like her at first, but she's grown on me. She's smart, has lots of connections and brings out the 'best' in Tony.
Yay... I think. Somehow Carla is a character that never feels like she belongs in the Street - unlike say Frankie Baldwin, whose "poshness" was quickly forgotten. Presuming Tony finally gets his comeuppance, it's hard to see who else Carla could get involved with.
Yay. She is the best character in corrie and i will definitley miss her. Alison king is a brilliant actress and corrie won't be the same without her. can't wait till she's back.
When Carla was first cast, I really didn't like her but after watching her for a long time, I kinda found a soft spot for her. Yes, I think I will miss her. Whoever will run the factory with an iron fist like she did ?
Yay, I'll miss her a lot. She always lights up the screen when she's on. Great character and great actress.
YAY...carla is by far the best thing about Corrie!!!!!I'm delighted for Alison but she's a HUGE loss to the street!!!!!
nay nay nay nay i founf carla very boring
To make myself clear: nay, nay, nay, and nay.
Yay, Alison has developed what could have been a very one-dimensional character into one of the most rounded characters on the street. Carla has so many sides to her personality. I love bhow she can be quite caring beneath the icy exterior she displays and though I know many people didn't like Liam & Carla I think that the storyline allowed us to see another depth to her. I can't wait until she returns though at least we still have Tony around. Have to say I kind of have a soft spot for both Gordons. Wish her well with the new arrival and hope the birth goes okay.
I love Carla and i will definitley miss her. Most people i know like Carla, but it's interesting reading here how much she seems to be a love her or hate her character. Her fans (like me!)think she is the best thing to ever happen to corrie, while those who don't like her REALLY don't like her. She does have a lot of fans though so i hope she's back soon. (although good luck to Alison King with the new arrival! :) )
NAY, I loathe the character. She is just a horrible person. The Brits kept saying she would grow on us here in Canada, but I've not felt it. We've just finished the storyline where she torments poor Maria for no reason prior to her wedding to Liam, making her think they were having an affair. I fast-forward over her scenes, as I can't stand to even look at her!
In Canada we are viewing April '08 and the writers are starting to huminized Carla, having her lay off Maria, joke with Liam at Tony's expense, and interact with people outside the factory. Up until resently she was protrayed as an ice faced b---h. Maybe by the time she leaves our screens I will miss her, but last year I would have said good riddence.
Undoubtedly it has to be a YAY. Alison King is superb and nothing short of that. The way she portrays Carla is genuine and really, at time, quite heartfelt. Carla is a wonderful mix of all those things you listed in the initial post Sue and probably many other things as well. I could never actually imagine this working on a character, but with Carla it makes her all the more watchable. I shall really, really miss her during her temporary absence.
I am immensely looking forward to Fridays double header and i cannot wait to see how it all unfolds. I long for her return as well.
Hopefully the producers will take the opportunity of her return to the show to introduce her brother and sister that Alison has publicly spoken about. We all want to find out more about Carla's past. Then will be the perfect time.
nay nay nay nay nay nay nay ! what an pain...someone like that in my life would make me do criminal things !!!!!!!!
glad to see her go and we may get lucky and she wont be back.
like the whole crew that came in on the conner story not very good
Nay, She's on the show to much, Im glad she's havin a baby so she'll be off the screen 4 some time. and i want the rest of the connors to leave
YAY! Alison King is the saviour of Corrie!
Yay, but I also think this break will be good for Carla as a character. It will keep all us who like her anticipating her return and it will stop her becoming overused. As a former Connor, Carla needs to be kept away from going down that path.
YAY! A feisty Corrie lady - I wish Alison all the best and hope she has a lovely baby.
Alison King as "saviour of Coronation street"??? I think NOT. I agree with the person that said Carla doesn't fit on Coronation Street. Never has. The real "saviours of the Street" are the superb actors that make up the entire Street, many who have been there for years, like Steve, Liz, Rita, Norris, Emily, Jack (and Vera), Tyrone (on and on) and newcomers like Becky who can and DOES act circles around Alison King. These fine actors are the reason Coro stays top of the heap, NOT Alison King/Carla. Not even close.
yay. A great character who will be missed. Good luck to Alison and her partner with the new baby and hopefully she will be back soon.
yay. i've always liked carla and think Alison is a very good actress. Plus it's nice to have a beautiful woman on the street(rather than only having young girls under the age of 25 as the "babes" of the street.) I hope she's back soon
Yay! Carla is my favourite Corrie character at the mo, and is also one of my faves all time. Carla may be a bith and hard as nails at times, but's scracth beaneath the surface and you'll find a hell of a lot more, and even she had her achilles heel in the form of her love for Liam.
Also, Alison plays her perfectly-hope that you have a lovely baby and enjoy yuor meturnity leave!
Yay! Her character is amazing and she has some good storylines. Shes one of my fave characters at the moment and I will definately miss her! Hope she comes back soon and good luck to her and her partner with their new baby!
yay. I love Carla and think she will be greatly missed. Alison is a top actress and even the corrie fans i know who don't like the character of Carla agree that Alison plays her very well. Hope she's back soon but good luck with the new family. xxx
YYYYAAAYY OF COURSE I WIL!!!!!!!!!!! I loved her and liam together and am gutted since he left oh and now she is! bummer
do you have any news on rob james collier btw ?
Lara - see tomorrow's Corrieblog for something on RJC.
yay of course ill miss her i love her to bits and especially her and liam togehter, cant wait 4 her 2 cum bk tho, congrats to her on the baby tho
She is one of the best reasons to watch Corrie in the past few years. Not only is Alison King gorgeous but displays a mix of vulnerability and bitchiness as Carla. When she is nasty, part of me wants to find out why. Likewise when she just happens to display a shred of human decency. She's also low-key in her portrayal without being over dramatic. I hope there is more for her in terms of storylines on Corrie. I can't wait for her return.
i work as a tillassiant in abusy shop everyday i get told im the double of carla of corrie i was walking through the town a lady ran behind me and shouted me thinking i was her i then was shopping in tescos a man asked me for my autograph i dont know what to say sometimes a people stare at me in the street its so wierd
I hope that 'Carla' survives through this whole horrendous debacle and puts that rapist monster character behind bars where he belongs.
~ It's about damn time that some justice happens in Soapland, just as it does in the real world.
I'm absolutely sick of seeing rape cases being lost in TV dramas, like with the Emmerdale's 'Lisa Dingle' and the Hollyoaks character 'Jacqui McQueen', for example, and I'm very sure that the negative portrayal of there case outcomes deters real victims from reporting this abhorrent crime too.
Save Carla Connor!
