Here's a photo of Deirdre wearing a pair of specs I haven't seen before. We always see photos of her with those big dinner-plate sized ones with heavy plastic frames. Here she is in 1975 with then-fiance Billy Walker, wearing a sporty pair of wire rimmed aviators. When Anne Kirkbride first appeared on the show, she was spec-less but it was decided that glasses would be Deirdre's prop, much like other characters have their signature props. Hayley has her red anorak, Gail always had a full head of hair, Hilda had her curlers, Ken wore cardies and jumpers and Bet had her behive hair.
Its nice to look back over the years on the street, love fab photo friday, nice memorys.
I wish I'd seen more of Deirdre's relationship with Billy. In Deirdre's early years, the men she fancied all had similar traits. Billy. Ray. Mike. No wonder she seemed so unhappy with Ken.
Its good to see pictures of characters when they were young and good looking. Deirdre was a bit of a man magnet in her youth and its nice to be reminded of this. Nice to see Billy Walker also.
Young Deirdre does look a lot like Clare Peacock. Think it is the hair even more than the glasses.
