Double episode written by Peter Whalley and Simon Crowther
Ooh, I'm liking Luke Strong. He's cheeky and cool and charming, and he gets right under Tony Gordon's skin like tattoo ink. It was wonderful to see Tony's cocky confidence crumble away, because he has no idea what Carla has told Luke - which means that he is very much in Luke's power, for now.
The factory girls like Luke as well. He lets them go home early, he buys them drinks, he probably reminds them of the good old days when Liam was around. Rosie Webster got in early with a bit of flirting (Tony described her as "a helium balloon tied to a pair of high heels," which Luke amended to "two helium balloons" - it was a Simon Crowther episode, after all), and Kelly wasn't far behind.
Lloyd and Liz turned up at the Barlows for the dinner party from hell...
Deirdre had done prawn cocktail for starters, and her famous lamb tagine, but where was Ken? Upstairs having a shower. When he descended he was wearing the kimono that Martha gave him, much to the amusement of the guests and horror of Deirdre and Blanche. "It's not eccentric, it's Japanese," Ken pointed out. Blanche was unimpressed. "Always sniffing out controversy," she said. We also learned that these days Ken is forever playing the Beatles' White Album. And what's his favourite track? Martha My Dear, that's what. Oh, he's got it bad.
Claire told Ashley that she'd told Graeme about Fred's little speech mannerisms, which is why Graeme was pretending to be possessed by Fred every time he wore his hat. Graeme was quite funny being Fred, but it was Ashley who stole the scenes as he described how much he missed his father. I had a tear in my eye.
In other news, Joe got annoyed with Gail for talking to Jason about his money woes, and Leanne offered Michelle a job in the bookies.'
