Yay or nay: is Corrie heading in the right direction?

Comments (16)

Last week we asked for your opinion on the Liz/Lloyd relationship. The verdict was a most definite "yay."

carla-takes-tony's-temperat.jpgThis week, I'm thinking big again. I personally think that Kim Crowther is doing an excellent job on Corrie. Current storylines are good, there's a nice balance of characters and the writing has been great. But a comment to a recent episode review said, "it's heart breaking to watch whilst at the same time remembering the classic days of Ena and co," so obviously not everyone agrees with me.

Yay it is definitely showing improvement. You can't go back to the old days of Ena and Annie Walker. Times have changed and if Coronation Street had not changed with it, it wouldn't have lasted this long. It has to reflect somewhat what people's lives are like now, not 40 years ago. Through it all, there are still consistencies. There's still a tart with a heart of gold. Liz? Or maybe Leanne considering her recent past. There's still a factory on the street. There's still the pub and the barmaids that hold it all together and still a brassy landlady. Still a ruthless factory boss and Rita still holds down the fort at the Kabin, Betty is still making hotpots. There's still a work shy skiver, from Stan to Jack to Les and now Eddie Windass. Not everything changes.

I'm going to go with 'Yay'. I think it's picked up a lot lately (although not too sure about all the double entendres we've had recently).

I nearly gave up on Corrie during the 'my-two-sons-wringing-hands-playing-with-hair-screeching-at-Steve-I'm-in-every-scene-Me-Me-Me-Michelle' business, but I'm glad to see it's on the turn for the better.

There's still not enough topless Peter Barlow for my liking though. ;)

Compared to other soaps, Corrie is way ahead. One thing that makes it unique is that there's still veteran characters, and I don't just mean old people, but people like Deirdre and Gail in it, and still in the limelight. Where else could you get brilliant comedy than from Corrie: Blanche, Norris, Steve, Betty, that echo the Snug, Hilda, Annie and Mavis. Sure, the classics have gone, but there's still golden characters still in it. Once Ken, Rita, Emily and Betty go, we'll go back and say again: 'It was good back then'. I've got the 1971 and 1976 DVD, and the difference between the storylines then was the innocence, no drama as such, a small cast, with people getting to know different characters and, the Lancashire accent, which seems to have disappeared from our Corrie screens. I think it is at it's best if it keeps to that mix of comedy and drama.

nay nay nay nay nay nay i think that the story lines at the moment are very boring. itkeeps on showing the cast every week and every eipsode of corrie

I think as long as Corrie has a good mixture of young and old people storylines then I will continue to luv it. There are so many shows on the telly these days that focus on the 'beautiful, young or rich' people. We all know that life is so much more then just superficial garbage!

I think the key is good writing. Johnathan Harvey and Julie Jones are good writers, however Darren Little was corrie's finest writer in recent years, they should bring him back. The writing is good at the mo, as the comedy is coming back. Corrie needs humour more though.

It has been good over the past few months, its a great mixture of characters and Famalies latley, and the storylines are really good at the moment, even though some can be stretched out, I think its an outstanding soap, I love the legend characters and how they still give us outstanding drama - Gail especially. And seeing characters like Emily and Rita is great, corrie has really balanced out its plotting and characters, The only thing I want to see more of is the Platts!

Nurse Florence, a woman after my own heart. Mind you as lovely as Peter's tattoos are, the body art on Ciaran (remember him?) was even better!

Yay! Apart from the continuity issues (the Tardis that is the now the Rovers) and the convenient 'forgetting' of characters without any reason (Alex, Doreen, Dr. Matt etc etc) which, I *know* it's ony a TV story but insult a viewer's intelligence beyond belief, I think in general Corrie has improved over the past few months. I do think that the writers have a lot to answer for in alienating certain characters (Claire, Michelle) by flogging a story line to death, over-exposing the actors and over-cooking the plot. Perhaps they have learned at last as the Liam murder story is a lot less in-your-face (plus Gray O'Brian's superb acting)and compelling viewing as a result. Corrie is back on track as a great mix of comedy and drama. Long may it remain so!

The only way is up. Not my words, Yazz's words. But yes, perfectly demonstrate my point. I love Corrie, always have and unless something rather rediculous happens i'm sure i always will. I think Corrie has gone from strength to strength these last few months. Of course there will be the occassional tedious storyline (Michelle's son's saga etc) but they can't get it right all of the time. Acting is of a supremely high standard especially from, Alison King, Katherine Kelly, Gray O'Brien and Simon Gregson. Plus i am loving the return of old characters, plus new ones too, Graeme, little Simon to name a few. The golden oldies make the show though. Without the Emily's, Blanche's, Norris' and Rita's you won't have a show. Long may it continue.

Tvor, I do indeed remember Ciaran! Never found him as easy on the eye as Mr B Jnr though ;)

Ciaran wasn't particulary handsome to look at. I always thought Peter's head on Ciaran's body would be perfect ;)))

I think the show has the best balance of characters of any soap now, the best comedy, the best new characters. I think they've vastly improved from where they were in 2007 and much of 2008.

What I wish they could work on is how to tell a story. Becky/Steve being sacrificed for Michelle, Tyrone and Molly's lovely wedding day being sacrificed for the scams, Tina losing IQ points so she can hang around Gary Windass and alienate David. If it doesn't fit the characters, then it should be changed.

it's definitely a very big YAY from me. I love the new characters coming in as change is vital. The script writing is a cut above ALL other soaps and Corrie is and always has been a bit special. I do watch the other soaps and enjoy them, but there is only one Street!

Great to see older characters staying in too and well done to actors such as Katherine Kelly and Kate Anthony - lovely characters and well portrayed.

yay i loved the storylines bye x

it is definetly a yay for me,it has been good over the past few months,i think carla is the best actress in coronation street, i will miss not seeing her in it. i think the story line is good
