So how was the wedding for you?

TyroneFloor.jpgThe first wedding of the year wasn't as sophisticated as Carla and Tony's and neither did it have a dramatic reveal even though it *was* fraught with tension. Would Tyrone make it to the altar or not? Well of course, we knew he would. The spoilers told us so! Spoilers er... spoiled it a bit for Sue but it didn't for me, not one little bit and Ian Wylie is on the same Yay-team as me! The pen of Jonathan Harvey once again delivered what it promised and then some and the actors rose to the challenge admirably, I thought.

There was only one niggling point that bothered me and it compared unfavourably with the Gordon wedding in December. One commenter, Old Ena, put it succinctly, calling the guests a "rent-a-crowd". Carla and Tony, who really have very few friends on Coronation Street, had a good number of Street residents present to see them say I Do. Where was everyone on Monday night?

I talked about this in a comment to the summary for Monday's show. There were very few Streeters at the wedding. There were people directly connected to Molly from the corner shop, Natasha who'd done her hair and makeup, Pam and Jack, Kirk the Best Man, Fiz and Julie, and the Websters. Where was Eileen? Where was Tyrone's other best mate, Jason? Quite often at weddings, we'll see guests that have a very thin thread of a connection to the couple and you wonder why they're there. There's always a couple of people missing that should be but on the whole, a large portion of the guests are familiar faces. No so on Monday night. It seemed strange.

So, Natasha. I suppose she was helping out because Maria is away. Natasha is still the most pointless character on the street.

Molly's dress was exquisite but i really disliked that big coat with the massive bow on it that she wore to get to the church. It's too bad Molly's Dad couldn't be there but the actor was unavailable. If Diggory hadn't been a regular character, they could have recast him but then that would have taken away from the poignancy of Jack walking Molly down the aisle. Perfect!

Tyrone's dilemma, having to take on that one last deal because Molly wouldn't let Pam leave her, and the trouble he got into was pretty typical yet frustrating. He should have just let the deal go and Pam could have done another deal some other time to get the money for the new pigeon coop. Nobody really believes Dave was a real cop, do they? If he was, he wouldn't have just cuffed Tyrone and sat there talking without telling Tyrone his rights. Right there, the charge would be tossed out and Jack at least, should have known that much. There's Dave, with the bribe money *and* the RoyBan sunglasses. Result for him! Great character though, wasn't he?

Poor old Ty, face-diving the floor at the altar. Poor Jack, missing Vee.

The other bits of the episodes were well written and moved the story along nicely. We saw that Peter is still drinking on the sly. We saw that Peter and Leanne's relationship has gone to the next step. We saw Steve trying to run away from his problems but realizing that isn't the answer either. The stage is set there for the run up to Friday's show where his and Michelle's relationship blows up sky high.

All in all, an excellent Corrie night!

In other Street weddings, the thing that causes the problems on the day is part of the plot(Steve/Karen/Tracy, Maria seeing the mobile phone footage at Carla and Tony's, Carla's last-minute pleadings with Liam at Liam and Maria's, Jim's intervention at Liz and Vernon's). In this one, the silly business about the sunglasses was just contrived for that episode as a way to build tension that didn't really exist. That's what I found irritating.

Jason, Ashley and Graeme were in Tyrone's stag do, so why not the wedding? Eileen lives next door to them, Maria was away so she couldn't have come, Hayley and Kelly was in Molly's hen night, so why not the wedding? And I'm sure that Rita and Norris are good friends with them, with The Kabin next door to the garage. It's a riddle!

Loved the wedding. I too am not at all sure that Dave was a policeman, but maybe more will come to light on that - it was left open a bit.

I thought Tyrone's faint was an absolute classic and had me howling after the tension.

I also think that Pam's heart showed true colours when she asked Jack to give Molly away. I knew she had a heart of gold for her nearest and dearest. However, I do think Jack looks annoyed with her after the latest dodgy deal escapade. I'm sure after the wedding he will make his points clear - but it was good to see both Jack and Pam happy together at the event. I'm sure V would be proud.

I loved the wedding episodes, but more characters should of been there and lines given to them, other than that I thought it was funny and heart warming, and of course its not over yet, we have the reception tonight!

The wedding was like a "Carry On" farce, pure slapstick, the coach and horses galloping round and round, the Molly's eye makeup running, Molly screeching, Molly almost popping out of her dress, the handcuffs, the fainting, Auntie Spam's dodgy deals, one big yawn. Only one bit I liked - Jack remembering Vera.
