Yay or Nay: Did Christmas on the Street excite you?

Comments (11)

25dec_platts_Christmas.JPGI was reading the weekly summary written by Flaming Nora over on her blog, here, and she's just posted her Christmas update. She didn't seem to think Christmas had all the thrills and chills of previous years and it seems to have left her a bit disappointed. There was merit in some of what she says, I did enjoy most of the season's offerings. We did have the annual Platt scrap though I would agree it wasn't the level of revelations it has been in the past. We had gaudy Christmas lights in the tradition of Les Battersby but not as classy as the Mallett's "Santa's Nookie Nest", mind you! We did miss the Barlows' Christmas altogether and I did rather miss Blanche insulting Deirdre's cooking. I loved Becky and Steve's Grotto Love and I enjoyed watching the attraction grow between Liz and Lloyd and regrow between Tyrone and Molly (though it's not quite there yet). Tony strangling Jed with a nightie and then watching the factory workers party around the body hidden in the bin was truly ironic.

So what did you think? Did you enjoy this year's Christmas festivities and intrigues on Coronation Street?

I am actually going to say Nay. I only watch Corrie and Emmerdale after giving up on Eastenders a few years back and i have to say i found Emmerdale's much more gripping, which is what look for in a Christmas episode. I like all the family drama's but i do like a bit of real drama. Emmerdale had a better build up as well to their Christmas Day episode and it just added to the intrigue.

I have enjoyed this Christmas on Corrie don't get me wrong. Jed's awakening and then vanishing act was great, i didn't expect it. But the Platt's just seemed so 2006. I too missed Blanche's derision of Deirdre's cooking.

I was ashamed that they didn't include all the characters after they mentioned what they were doing anyway: not a scene from No. 1, not a scene of Rita and Colin in a restaurant nor Eileen and co. having their Christmas dinner.

I think the corrie episode at Christmas was great, the platts always give us the best drama and there were some good stuff with the underworld girls with their Christmas party and all the drama with Jed around them, a great corrie christmas I say!

No. Bottom line for me, it was just boring, which is surprising considering quite a lot happened but none of it interested me in the slightest.

Too many characters absent, boring, boring, boring.

I liked the Polish Christmas. The scenes with Jed and Tony were OK, a really crazy, inspired performance from Gray O'Brian, but they didn't feel right for Christmas. I thought the Windass/Platt scenes were a mistake. There was too much contrivance, and they put some really bad acting front and center. Rosie should not have been there, it just showed how pointless a character she is. The Windasses, the performances from them were really off. Joe throwing food and screaming was a surprisingly terrifying moment, probably the only one which worked in those scenes, but I really don't want to see Gail with another psycho partner.

Im going to go for a nay, i was not impressed by the quiet on corrie this christmas, i really think that writers could have stepped up the mark to make christmas more eventful! i was also very annoyed to see how many characters were missing out on the festive fun, what exactly were they doing?

still fingers crossed for a better year!

Why do we have to have a fight at the Platt's every Christmas? And what's the point of the Windass family? What's happened to the Christmas lunch scene of old with everyone forgetting their troubles and having fun together?

Nay. =(

Nothing beats Christmas 2006 for me, with Granny Ivy's diary.

I really dislike the character Tony so I wasn't convinced or compelled by that storyline at all. The Norris/Wiki scene was moderatley funny and then started to drag. And I had quite high hopes for the Platt stuff, but after the standards were set from 2006, it was a little flat.

And I agree with a previous poster; Rosie being in the Platt household did just highlight how pointless she really is.

Thanks for the link and mention. Obviously I vote NAY! ;-)

I found the episodes proceeding Xmas day good and also the ones following it, but I found the actual Xmas day episode boring and the stories over stretched, it was as if only a few actors had bothered to come into work the day they were filming and they had to make do with a random few characters.
I agree not only did Rosie prove her pointlessness by being at the Platts but I also felt it stretched creditbility that the Windass's could be that pig-headed and loutish also, think they over-egged the undesireablability of them all there.

So a Nay for the Xmas day episode.
But a Yay for the rest of the festive period for me.

Nah they have ruined Joe, he ruined it >:C
And Rosie would never go for that guy :X
It's funny.. in Australia Christmas lights are a good thing and people don't get angry.. like the upper class would have heaps too, not just the bogans.
