Corrie's new factory boss is Ken's ex-girlfriend's son

qaf-212.jpgCorrieblog reader Cobblestone remarked on this first, but I was going to blog about it anyway, honestly!

Craig Kelly, who is going to be joining Coronation Street soon as factory boss Luke Strong, made his name in the Channel 4 series Queer as Folk. And his mum in that brilliant show was played by none other than Denise Black, who of course played hairdresser and former love of Ken Barlow Denise Osbourne in Coronation Street.

Antony Cotton, Corrie's Sean Tully, had a major role in Queer as Folk as Alexander Perry. As well as Antony and Denise, two episodes of the series featured Alan Halsall (Corrie's Tyrone) as Midge, and Paul Copley (who played Ivor in Corrie last year) also appeared.

Wow, Alan Halsall was in QAF? I don't remember him at all, and as he would have appeared in Corrie by that time I would have thought I'd recognize him. Who was Midge?

Debo - I was just looking through some of the clips on the Channel 4 website trying to find him (I haven't, yet) - and spotted the actor who played Tony Horrocks! I guess it's because both shows were/are made in Manchester, there's a lot of local actors involved. [Sue H]

And of course Russell Davies is a huge QAF fan and wrote for the show at one time, I think.

I'm glad Corrie is continuing to get new male characters in this age range, as they're needed. I just wonder if he's going to be a long term character or only around long enough to be killed by Tony.

I'm guessing you mean Russell T Davis is a fan of Corrie, there, Carl. Clearly he'd be a QAF fan as he created and wrote it ;) But if I remember righly, there were numerous Corrie references in the QAF script. I remember thinking at the time, this guy is a fan!

Didn't you know?? There's only 10 actors in Manchester, so they have to share them around. It's not as if there's thousands of highly talented actors just sitting around at home waiting for a casting director to bother to look further than the cast lists in the latest edition of the Radio Times...

(OOh... not bitter then! :)
