The 2008 Corrieblog Awards was a resounding success and we thank everyone that participated. We've now rolled out the cobbled carpet and are ready to present the awards, voted by you, Corrieblog readers. If you want to refresh your memories, the Character nominations are here and the Storyline nominations here.
1. Best Comedy Team - Blanche and Deirdre
Becky and Roy, Steve and Lloyd were runnersup, write-in suggestions were Blanche and Ken, Lloyd and Eileen. A particularly entertaining missive was "Blanche is a vile little ghoul!"
Most Annoying Character - Michelle Connor
Close behind were Lauren, Clarissa and Rosie with Dev as a write-in suggestion.
Best New Character, Short Term - Teresa Morton, by a handy majority
Marcus was popular in second place and Eileen's dad Colin got a look in.
Best Returning Character, short term - It was a dead heat between Jed Stone and Jim McDonald with Jim just barely edging out Jed.
Best Returning Character, long term - It was Peter Barlow by a mile with John Stape barely getting a look in.

Best New Character(s) Long Term - Graeme Proctor topped the list but Tina MacIntyre made a strong showing as well.
Pointless character - Alex Neeson was a definite first place winner.
Natasha was next on the list.
Most improved character- Darryl Morton impressed most of you. He must have, because the producers kept him on after the rest of the family was ejected. His girlfriend Amber was next most popular with our voters and Tina was suggested as improved as well.
Funniest character - Not much of a contest here, Blanche Hunt was a runaway winner. Steve was a bit of a distant second. Others suggested were Audrey and Graeme.
Best Do-gooder Emily Bishop was the stronger of our two contenders but Hayley did well. Roy was also suggested as a do-gooder.
On to the storyline awards:
Saddest death - Vera's death broke the most hearts. Liam's death was the runner up. It's fitting though, that the passing of such a classic character would move most of the voters, I think.
Best exit storyline - Most of the voters seemed quite satisfied that Vernon's record deal was the reason he left and to be honest, it was nice to see something good happen to Vernon after he'd been disrespected and cheated on.
Best Storyline long term - It was close at first but then one storyline pulled away and won handily. The winnter in the end was Tony's revenge (including Tony trying to buy the garage/Kabin)/Liam's death.
Best Storyline short term - Nearly everyone thought Teresa poisoning Jerry was the best short term storyline this year. All the other storylines got 2 votes each!
Best triangle - Liam/Maria/Carla (and Tony) had most of the romantic votes. You probably weren't surprised at that!
Best Wedding - It was a very close vote here all the way through. The winner was Liz and Vernon by one vote with Tony and Carla's wedding second but Liam and Maria's wedding was only one vote behind that.
Best Location shoot - The Lake District featuring Liam's accident was the favourite but Poole's Caverns had a number of fans as well.
Funniest Storyline - Steve attempting to cover up his one night stand with Becky had most of your funnybones tickled.
Most Traumatic Breakup - This was a close race, too. Liz and Vernon won the day here with Becky and Jason's volatile breakup a close second place.
And for the most anticipated result? The most anticipated moment was a tie. Even Sue and I disagreed. She voted for the revelation that Steve loves Becky and I voted for Rosie's release on the grounds that it meant that dreadful storyline was over. Since Steve's realization of his true feelings for Becky was something nobody really saw coming (if you don't read spoilers, that is!) it wasn't exactly anticipated so Rosie's release at the hands of wronged girlfriend Fiz breaks the tie and wins the day here!
So there you have it. The Corrieblog best for 2008. We hope you enjoyed reliving some of the best of Coronation Street of 2008! 2009 is going to be brought in with a bang, quite literally.

Audrey for funniest character?
Definitley not this year.
Also, if you havent posted it already, did you read on DS that blanche was going to be axed?
DS and the Daily Star actually say that Blanche was not being axed, and yes, will be blogging that tomorrow!
Great awards and a fab idea, well done corrie stars and characters, you've all played a blinder!
Thank you for not only posting the winners and placements, but also the write-ins. That's dedication! Glad Ken and Blanche were mentioned. The gay story was one of the funniest of the year.
I'm glad Marcus at least got a strong second place to Teresa. I miss him a lot.
