Yay or nay: Auntie Pam and her knock-off ham

Comments (20)

Last week we asked: did the identity of Rosie's kidnapper surprise you? And it comes as no surprise that it was a unanimous Nay. I liked Frank's comment: "Stape looks like he could be blown over by Sean Tully, let alone Rosie Webster." Old Ena agreed: "How on earth did he manage to get Rosie in the car anyway... into the house and up the stairs? She is young strong girl as tall as him."

molly-pam-511.jpgSo, moving on from this deeply implausible scenario, let's contemplate the colourful character who is Molly's Auntie Pam. I've picked up various rumblings about her in the Corrieblog comments, so I know quite a few people find her irritating and boring. But I wonder if she has any fans? I find her quite funny, particularly when she has scenes with Jack (currently on an extended stay in the Corrie cupboard) or that lovely scene she had with Blanche where they talked about milk-based desserts. I saw Auntie Pam in Thorpe Park on 18th Feb 2009. She was on the banana boat!!!!

  • Sonia

We love Aunty Pam, shes put some humour back in the street. Another duet with Rita please! Hope she stays. YAY from us

  • Stewart

Definitely a yay from me. She's a wonderful comical addition to the cast and has the potential to go on to be as big as Blanche and other comic greats in the show. Her silly escapades and daft dialogue give a welcome light relief from some of the more serious storylines in the way that Corrie does it so well. Long live Auntie Pam - let's see more of her shenanigans and more interactions with other characters such as Blanche and Norris.

I love Pam, we have had some good additions this year such as Pam, Julie and Tina along with the development of Molly, Becky and Amber. They have a great cast. Oh and Teresa of course. The female cast is excellent at the moment.

  • Peter

Pam is a superstar. Bright, funny, and oozes charm and wit. Her integration with other characters over the last few weeks, such as Rita and Blanche, has come about naturally and hasn't been rushed at all. She really is a keeper and i want to see lots more. I would love to see her get rumbled on one of her dodgy deals, hopefully just before the wedding. I am sure we all will want to go and give her a huge hug as she is such a lovely character.

She is the best thing to happen to Corrie for ages.

I am waiting for a love interest.........A big yay from me

  • frank

An absolute nay. As I've said before, everytime she opens her gob it;s to bang on about the wedding, or money, or she knows a man who... No depth, no story, and no subtlety and interraction with Jack. I hate her, she;s irritating. And the writers are just lazy.

    I'm anti-pam!!!!!

  • Old Ena

I have warmed to Auntie Ham as they call her on Diggie spy since she gave Jackie Dobbs what for. I just think her get rich quick schemes may start to err on the side of the illegal soon like knock off gear rather than fire damaged stuff and poor naive Tyrone is bound to take the rap for it.

I've been a Corrie fan for 20 years. Aunty Pam is easily my favourite character since Vera, whom I loved.

She is funny, loyal, tough and bright. Her scenes have been my favourite in the last few weeks, desite the shennanigans elsewhere.

Love the actress, too. She looks like she is really enjoying the role.

  • Anna

Absolutely Love her! She is truly the best character I have seen on a soap in a long time! Finally a bit of comedy in a soap rather than misery and torment!

Aunty Pam needs to stay in it forever.

    BIG YAY!!!!!

  • gracie44

Well I seem to be going with the flow. It's a bib big YAY from me as well. The character and the actress is a breath of fresh air and surely a blessing for the script writers.

I'm sure the story lines will change occasionally, but Ms Anthony will pull off anything she is asked of I'm sure. Long may the character continue. A great matriacal character for Tyrone and Molly.

But, does she have any hidden secrets? I bet there's a man somewhere - what ever happened to Whispering Jeff!

  • oldtimer

NAY - irritating voice, stupid storyline, can't stand her at all.

  • Llifon

I think she's got good interactions with characters such as Dev, Jack, Blanche and Rita. It was a nice touch when they Pam and Rita sang a duet in the Kabin.

  • Clare

YAY I think Auntie Pam is fabulous!

  • James

i think auntie pam is great, very funny and seems to get on with everyone, i just hope she doesnt get caught with her little deals.. yay all the way

  • Albert T

She is a bit OTT sometimes, but it's a yay for me. She does seem to be doing a one-woman monolgue at times rather than inter-acting with the rest of the cast but some of her one-liners have been good and delivered with suitabley good comic timing.

Her dodgy dealings do give the writers a whole seam of comic possibilities , so I hope they mine them well and she turns into a great long-term character.

  • leighton

definately yes!! i can't think of any character like pam, past or present, so it's yet another fresh addition to a top drawer cast as it is. her scenes with rita winding up norris recently was particularly funny, and it's nice to see she's intergrating with other characters on the show bar Jack, Molly and Tyrone.

    Well done Corrie!

  • Ann

YAY, YAY, YAY, Auntie Pam brings fun to the street,She is energetic and enthusiastic. She really loves Molly and Tyrone and wants her niece to have the fairy tale wedding she deserves.

  • William Zanzinger

A resounding YAY! Auntie Pam has great comic timing and I think will give the writers the capacity to give her great lines ala Blanche. Keep up the good work!

  • tvor

Oh i think she's great! They are writing wonderful lines for her and her reactions are really funny! I bet she could trade insults with Blanche without batting an eye and put Blanche in her place a time or two! YAY from me!
