Yay or nay: are Steve and Becky the perfect Corrie couple?

Comments (25)

Last week's yay or nay asked: will Gail and Joe settle down? The view was mainly yay. Christopher said, "Gail is a legend and it is about time she had some happiness, plus I love actress Helen Worth."

10_10_becky-steve.jpgOn to another couple, and this week it's got to be Steve and Becky. There's nothing I'd like better (apart from finding Damon Albarn under my Christmas tree) than seeing Steve and Becky get together, stay together, run the Rovers together, have babies and arguments and laughs and... Ok, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here. And maybe you think I'm entirely deluded and as a couple they're just plain wrong. Vent your feelings by clicking the comments link and having your say, whether it be a yay or a nay: are Steve and Becky the perfect Corrie couple?

Nay, it seems to me this is just Steve and Karen, round 2. I did like Steve and Karen together but it was very destructive. Becky already has Steve lying for her, in court no less. What a way to start a relationship!

I'm in Canada, about 10 months back, so they haven't even looked at each other yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I don't think Becky is Karen #2. Becky accepts who she is, doesn't have visions of grandeur and hopefully won't turn Steve into the wimp he is around Michelle. I'd like to think there's a couple will last and that The Rover's will be in good hands for decades.

To be honest, I find Michelle boring. Steve needs some one as wacked out as Karen was and with Becky he certainly gets that plus she has a heart of gold and brilliant comic timing.

Yay! Simon Gregson had done a fine job as establishing Steve as an essentially comic character, and pairing him with a straight character like Michelle leached all the fun out of him. With Becky, it's back in spades. This is the sort of coupling (if you'll pardon the expression!)that has made Corrie legendary. And since I can't imagine Michelle continuing to work at the Rovers under the changed circumstances, perhaps shifting her to an unfamiliar location and perhaps a new relationship will get her character back on form. I really didn't mind her when she first appeared, it's just since the unremitting Doom & Gloom settled in that she's become tedious. The one brief respite we had was Michelle helping Becky & Kirk to decorate Beck's new flat, and having a laugh in the process. She really needs more of that if she's staying in the show.

Being in Canada and light years behind you guys tell me did Steve dump Michelle? We are 3 weeks into the baby switching story and I'm about to go through my t.v. and strangle Michelle. The storyline is stupid, very poorly written in the fact that the NHS and lawyers would be involved, but mostly it's just a showcase for Michelle's lousy acting. Does she do any work in the Rovers... Please tell me this ends soon??? As for Steve & Becky, I could see that scenario.

Yes, I agree 100%, Steve & Becky would be ideal marriage for the show! Steve & Karen were good but Becky has far more dimensional qualities than Karen had. Becky has shown so many different elements within that make her wild white trash with a covering of real sincerity for all people. She at the Rovers would be so much fun and really bring back the Rovers as a centre of acivity like it was in the begining. Annie Walker would snob her nose but Bett would be most pleased in seeing herself re-born. Bring it on writers, make it a little topsy-turvey, but do not break the mold of love that they can share with themselves and others. Can you imagine how Amy would like her, she might even put a full sentenance togehter!! The highlight would be the return of Tracy, she would wish she was back in jail!

Its a NAY from me. I think Becky is too rough around the edges for Steve. He has been bullied by enough women and I disagree that there is any kind of chemistry or spark between them, unlike Karen.

Erm its a yay from me, although i don't feel strongly either way tbh. I wouldn't call them the 'perfect' corrie couple because i think Carla and Liam, Molly and Tyrone and Jack and Vee much suit that title moreso. But on the whole i think they'll be good for one another and sparks are sure to fly - which is always good viewing. Becky is definately better suited to Steve that moaning Michelle.

Yay. For all of the reasons i listed in the other thread. Steve is a shadow of his former self with Michelle and her character is slowly eroding Steve's character.

Him and Becky getting together and staying together couldn't happen soon enough as far as i am concerned.

Yay, I think this will be an interesting relationship. Though I have yet to see the UK episodes, it seems slightly incredible that this storyline progresses so quickly with Steve becoming besotted by her in such a short time. The writers must have some other storyline for Michelle and needed to hurry this one up. I for one am glad to see Michelle and Steve split up, that dry eyed crying and impossibly shiny hair were really starting to annnoy me.

YAY - I don't like Steve with Lazy Michelle, there is already more chemistry with Becky and they will be fun to watch.

Nay. Steve should have controlled his urges and stayed with Michelle. He will be lucky if she forgives him at all.

perfect for each other, two losers who bounce back, also these two can act.

tbh i think the way they are doing the storyline is a mistake as it is turning steve into an unlikeable character.
I'm not a huge michelle fan since she became all whiny, but the way steve apparently treats her in the next few weeks is terrible. He decides to end their relationship just a few weeks after the death of her second brother and right before christmas (which is quite a big deal considering they have the 2 kids to consider. surely its gonna be upsetting for amy, and even ryan, having their family wrenched apart just before christmas.)Not only this, but instead of being a man and ending the relationship himself, steve is going to try and get her to dump him, therefore making her the 'bad guy' in the eyes of the kids. He is going to make her life miserable with his bad boyfriend routine, and then make her be the one to split up the family.
And then theres the issue of the whole lying in court thing. First of all it seems that becky gets off scoot free for the crimes that she DID committ. I know she was drunk and upset at the time but she still did it. And then steve committs an even more serious crime by providing a false alibi and lying in court. Not only does he get away with this (as far as we know)but he actually seems to get rewarded for it. I know people say its stupid to complain about a soap for setting a bad example (and normally i'd agree!)but i think in this case corrie have made a mistake.
I'm not sure if steve and becky would make a good couple, i don't really think there's much chemistry between them yet but i suppose we'll see next week. But for the moment i'd say nay because it makes a normally likeable character unlikeable. (bit long. sorry!)

Steve always was a wimp and he still is. Becky played on that by getting him to lie and continue to lie for her, even in court. That's dangerous for him if he gets found out. He's already got a criminal record and he'd be back in the nick in an instant. Becky is playing him like a fiddle and that's pretty much standard for how all women handle Steve.

Yay, I'm in favour of anything that gets rid of Michelle. I am SO SICK of that character. I think she is sucking the life out of Steve and the sooner he gets rid of her the better!

Nay, I don't like the idea yet of him with Becky. Not that I'm saying I prefer him with Michelle; the baby swapping crap ruined her character and knackered his so their tedious relationship can't end quickly enough for my liking.

We'll see how it goes, they might turn out to be the perfect pairing, but at the minute, Steve needs a more fun-loving woman and he gets that with Becky so I suppose it could work eventually. Another plus is the fact that Katherine Kelly can act and Kym Ryder apparently never learned how.

No,Steve is a silly man.He should have never did what he did in the first place with bossy Becky.I know a lot of people like Becky, but I don't.Becky is bossy and she's only happy when she gets what she wants.Steve should put his foot down, and turn his back on her, she's trouble 100%.I can't stand her, she's over dramatic.

"He decides to end their relationship just a few weeks after the death of her second brother"

Michelle seems happier than ever, so the dead brother isn't a factor.

I am very, very mixed on this. I like the idea of Steve and Becky (although I think she had much more chemistry with Jason -- I loved them together), but I haven't seen any setup. She's shown no interest in him, he barely tolerates her presence, and all the sudden, they're in love?

I wish this story had had a it more setup.

I'm in Canada too and I agree -would love to see Steve and Becky develop into a solid item. I agree the baby-swapping scenario is nauseating along with Michelle's acting. Can't be over soon enough for me

lmg put my opinion into words better than I could. The 'how they get together' is so unrealistic it hard to warm up to them as a couple. How old is Becky? Steve is mid-thirties and she seems much younger than that. So another nay.

Nay, better than Michelle but still not ideal for him. Strange combination.

Becky has no chemistry with Steve. Steve clearly was very attracted to Michelle - even though she made such a wimp of him - and he is clearly not in the least attracted to Becky. NO WAY would he have left Michelle, who he was enthralled by, for Becky, who he never fancied. Becky has great chemistry with Lloyd. They would make a great couple. They should have got Becky together wtih Lloyd, and kept Steve with Michelle, BUT got Steve to stick up for himself more. Michelle is too bossy with him.

Yay, they are mad about each other and they are so funny together. I think they are a great couple.

best partnership...along with Hayley and Roy. Big mistake to split them up and even worse to bring back Tracey!!
