The Windasses are going to be trouble

steve-huison-311.jpgITV.com has a video interview and preview clips today with Jack P Shepherd (David), Michelle Keegan (Tina) and the actors who play new characters Eddie and Carl Windass, Steve Huison and Mikey North.

So what are these Windasses like? "They're a nightmarish bunch of people. They're the kind of family most people would recognise," says Steve. "The Windasses are dog rough," Michelle adds.

Jack P Shepherd sets the scene: "It all begins when I go to work for Tina's dad, Joe, and we're fitting a kitchen for the Windasses. It all goes a little bit sour, they refuse to pay, so I take matters into my own hands and threaten them with a crowbar. It's not so much David back to his evil ways - he sees how upset it's making Joe. But David plus crowbar equals violence, so that's what they get."

"What do we think of David Platt?" Steve Huison says. "He wants locking up!" Mikey North says, "I'm going to show him who's boss. He'll meet his match in me, I hope."

"Dignity is everything. We will do all we possibly can to retain our dignity and pride. If it means trampling all over the Platts, then it has to be done," warns Steve.

You can meet the Windasses on Coronation Street next week.

Are they moving into the Mortons house??

If they are I guess we'll have to overlook the implausibility of Jerry managing to sell the house in a week in the middle of the worst housing slump for years and if they're renting it from him the fact that they wouldn't be fitting a new kitchen. But no matter such basic facts don't bother the writers anymore.

The prospect of them doesn't fill me with excitement, but I hope they work out and that the writers have learnt their lesson from the Morton debacle and that they're given good stories from the start and that they are given time to develop as individual characters.

It's been a while since a new family has come in and totally worked so I hope the Windasses break the spell and go on to be great long-term characters. Though if they do it will beg the question as to why they worked and the Morton's didn't.

Another actor from dinnerladies...

Time for Victoria Wood to take a part in Corrie!

They could have done the same story with Les and Cilla or the Mortons, why bring another new family?

How come all new families have to be the neighbours from hell? Every time. Although I would like to see David getting taken on.

Albert T - from the clip on ITV.com it looked as though the Windasses weren't living in the Street (at least at the point where David is fitting their kitchen - they may move in later, I suppose). In fact the neighbourhood looked quite nice for a family who are supposed to be "dog rough." [Sue H]

So David threatens to...break wind?
