edward-de-souza-1711.jpgVeteran actor Edward de Souza will be turning up in Weatherfield soon, playing the role of Colin, Eileen Grimshaw's father. He'll also have a romantic liaison with Rita Sullivan,so he's in for a busy time.

Edward de Souza appeared in two cult films made for the Hammer studios in the early 1960s, The Phantom of the Opera and Kiss of the Vampire.

He also appeared in an episode of Doctor Who which is the only one that never featured an appearance by the Doctor himself, although William Hartnell, who played the Doctor at the time, is named on the credits.

Edward de Souza's most recent role has been in the film The Golden Compass, but his list of film and TV credits is huge.

You can see him in Coronation Street from 12 December.

He was also the star of feer on 4 on radio 4 and he has a very scary voice and I think that when most of you hear him you will never sleep again.

  • I think the storyline is going to be that he is the father of Kirks' girlfriend Julie as well which makes her a sister that Eileen doesn't know about. Should lead to some good comedy scenes as both actresses are mistresses of comic timing xxx

When I first saw this I wondered if he was going to come over from Emmerdale, but that's a fictional De Souza.

There were some odd rumors going around that Eileen's father was going to be Prem Mandal, so this is a relief.
