In honour of "Murder Week" on Coronation Street, this week's Trivia focuses on the criminals of the Street.
Characters that have spent time in jail:
Ken Barlow for not paying a fine - 7 days.
Tricia Armstrong for not paying her television license - 7 days.
Les Battersby for assault on a cop (though the cop threw the first punch)
- 6 months
Kevin Webster for assault on John Stape - 28 days but served 14.
Tracy Barlow for murdering Charlie Stubbs - 15 years.
David Platt for damage to property - 4 months, served about 6 weeks or so.
Steve McDonald for posession of stolen property (jail time) and for selling stolen car radios (fine).
Alan Bradley for assaulting Rita (but released at trial for time already served in remand)
Terry Duckworth for GBH.
Jim McDonald, once for breeching a peace order against Liz and 8 years for manslaughter (Jez Quigley).
Don Brennan for arson (torching Mike's factory).
Overnight or very short term (or were actually innocent):
Rita Sullivan for assault on Chesney Brown.
Sunita Alahan for bigamy (but she was innocent).
Presumably Maya Sharma for attempted murder and arson.
Eileen Grimshaw for theft (innocent, it was her ex that stole the money from the cab office)
Deirdre Barlow for fraud (though she was innocent).
Hayley Cropper for kidnapping a foster child.
People that should have been jailed but were found innocent:
Jez Quigley for GBH on Steve McDonald (and should have been nicked for drug dealing and any number of crimes. He paid, though. He died at the hands of Jim McDonald)
There were a number of other characters that had spent time in jail before they had been on the show or after they left it, including Dennis Tanner, Jon Lindsay, Greg Kelly and Eddie Yates. There have been a number of short term characters that were criminal from the start to finish such as Fraser Henderson and the escaped convict that held Val Barlow hostage in 1968.
There haven't been that many guns waved about on the show over the years and very few shooting deaths but we did have Ernest Bishop, who was shot by robbers. Jackie Ingram Baldwin held a shotgun on Mike ihn order to make him leave her house when she found out he married her for her factory. Joe Donnelli killed Steve Tanner by pushing him down stairs but then later killed himself with a gun. Dean Sykes died from Emma Watts' police gun at the end of the supermarket "seige".
Only Brian Tilsley has been killed by stabbing. The most common circumstance of death is heart attack with motor vehicle accidents a close second. Nine regular characters have died from being murdered either intentionally or by manslaughter. One deceased character has possibly haunted the street. Ivy Tilsley was allegedly seen by Sarah Lou Platt and Vera Duckworth in Number 5.

Thanks for these; an enjoyable read, as ever. Could Martha L be included as a potential deceased character who haunted the street?
If I remember rightly, Steve!s sentence was for two years for fraud and purgery. He try to set Vicky up to take the rap for him but the judge did not buy it.
Didn't Kelly get busted for theft from the factory, when it was really Becky? I think both those ladies (and I use the term loosely) have some kind of record, and Charlie spent a night or two in the cells as well.
...oh, and Jerry getting busted in Italy for cavorting nekkid in a fountain, I think it was (thank you, producers, for not actually showing us the incident!).
Jerry naked in a fountain?! With that body? I would be covering myself up from head to toe instead.
