Our Coronation Street fan of the week this week is Rachel Fay Olver - another Canadian-based Corrie viewer!
How long have you been watching Coronation Street?
I watched it vaguely while growing up on occasion, but unfortunately when I was younger I didn't really see the appeal. When I moved to Canada in 2000, it seemed a great link back home to the UK, so I've been following it more for the last eight years. Unfortunately I'm just really watching' Mike Plowman's visual updates at the moment because one of my jobs runs over the show on CBC , and I tried watching online albeit unsuccessfully (advice always welcome so I can try again!).
Who's your favourite character?
I'm very fond of Fiz. I admire her a lot. Steve's a favourite too. His scenes in the taxi office with Lloyd and Eileen often have me in giggles.
What's been your Corrie highlight or favourite story?
I was definitely glued to the screen during the Tracey/Steve/Karen saga. I loved the chemistry between Steve and Karen. Richard Hillman was another must-see. I also enjoyed seeing Sir Ian McKellen on screen as Mel Hutchwright. Fabulous!
What would be your Fantasy Coronation Street storyline?
I would be cast as a Brown cousin - I think I could pull it off! I could imagine being someone who's going to try and sort out things so that they're the way that they should be in the eyes of the viewers. Surely someone in Weatherfield could be happy courtesy of me? Fiz for example?
Have you ever visited the Street set, met any of the cast, or do you own any Corrie memorabilia?
I probably wouldn't have wanted to meet the cast or visit the set when I was younger, even if I had had the chance. One of my parents' neighbours had Katherine Hardy's book Coronation Street: the complete saga, which I have read.
If you've been wondering about emailing in to be fan of the week, do it now! My FOTW drawer is empty yet again! Have a look here for all the details.

Hi Rachel. I'll try to tell you how I watch Corrie. First you have to download the Bit Torrent program.... (Google it) Once that is installed, go to www.fr333dom.com. Someone usually posts the Corrie episode an hour or so after it has aired in England. Just click and download it. I start the download usually around 7pm here in Ontario, and by morning it's ready to watch.
Thanks Mike, but I want to be able to watch the current episodes on the CBC Website (http://www.cbc.ca/coronation/video.html). The one time that I did access the Website, it took me two and a half hours to watch one episode, and I knew I couldn't spend my time doing that for each episode. Basically I just need some information on how to watch episodes smoothly with little to no interruptions!
... greetings, Rachel ... pleased to 'meet' you!
... have to say that I think Fiz is grand an'all and the kabitzing in the cab office is often a welcomed hoot!
... might I ask why you just don't tape the eppies that you miss whilst working?
Faith, I would, but I also record House on Tuesdays, which currently airs opposite Corrie, so I don't know what I would do as I don't have the option to timeshift either show. I suppose I'm going to answer my own question here and suggest that I sit down and watch the omnibus on Sundays!
Why was Vera written out of the show? Was it for personnal reasons? I have been a big fan of Coronation Street since I move to Canada in 1970 and have enjoyed every episode I have seen. It is a show I can relate to in the way they live adn they dress normal and have jobs. Not like the stupid soaps from the states (i"m from Indiana).
