Yay or nay: is Rosie Webster worse than David Platt?

Comments (17)

It seems ages ago since we last had a yay or nay, but it was only a week since we asked you is the Dev/Nina/Tara love triangle just silly? There was general agreement that yes (or "yay"), it is just a bit daft. Dilly Daydream said, "Dev looks old enough to be Tara's father and Nina looks old enough to be Dev's mother." I'm still trying to work that out.

23_07_john-rosie.jpgMoving on, there's been some terribly bad behaviour recently from that Rosie Webster. All pout and cleavage, she's big-headed, selfish and frankly just not very nice. But she's never tried to drug any family members, loosen any scaffolding or pretend to commit suicide unlike a certain member of the Platt family. On the other hand, you could say that David Platt has more reason to be a delinquent - he's survived Richard Hillman and the slow neglect of his father, for a start. Decide, if you will, is Rosie Webster worse than David Platt? Click the comments link to have your say and vote yay or nay.

Nay. I dont think Rosies as bad as David because she dont do anything to harm her family members and Davids tried killing them.

Rosie's not that much different from a million other girls that age: they discover their sexuality and that it can be used to manipulate certain people. She's narcissistic and immature (and, for some reason, lacking eyelids) but she doesn't strike me as mentally ill the way David and Tracy did.

Actually, "mentally ill" isn't quite what I mean to say...just that Tracy and David are deeply dysfunctional and twisted, whereas Rosie could grow out the sort of behaviour she's displaying now. I don't think she was ever really as bright as Sally claimed, more like she was pushed a little further than she could actually manage. Now Sophie, *she* strikes me as having more smarts than the average bear; I hope they don't end up doing the "tearaway teen" arc with her because she's so clever and sassy she deserves better.

Nay. Rosie is a stupid little tart, while David is going through some mental breakdown that makes him “evil”. Difference is, Rosie isn’t “bad”, she’s just incredibly stupid – so stupid that she cant tie enough brain cells together to realise what affects her actions have on people. Meanwhile, David’s very clever and a lot of what he does has strategy – he sets out to hurt.

It’s true enough though that David’s had traumas that have led him to become this. Rosie is just cheap. However, sleeping around does not make someone “worse” than a teenager who has almost killed three people.

As well as that she’ll never be as complex or compelling either.

Nay, Rosie is selfish and a prima dona but David is downright evil! (My husband is always saying that David must be killed to be shown a lesson!) Obviously David (or the actor playing him) is able to be evil. (Just look in his eyes--it's the devil himself.)

Yar..... Rosie is baaad nooooose.... David has a sweet side :D

  • Pat

I don't think she is "evil" like David Plat. She does like to make people feel uncomfortable though in a sick sort of way. She is nothing but a little tramp. I don't like her now and I never did. I'd just as soon see her gone, gone, gone from the show.

I don't care for either character. That being said, David is much more evil than Rosie. David's actions have actually turned me off of him. In the beginning of his decline into hell I felt somewhat sorry for the kid, NOT ANYMORE.

Rosie is just a trumped up slapper who needs to be put in her place once and for all. Corrie is showing the parents of these two kids to be complete air heads as far as parenting. God help my favourite Sohpie..

  • Cobbler

They are each as bad as the other. Both are out for me, me, me and hang the rest of the world and who they hurt. I think both sets of parents need their heads read and then their children's. Is there a shrink in the house. LOL

  • Dilly Daydream

Well said Carl, agree with you 100%.

  • Carl

I will have to say Yay. Is she worse in criminal activities? No. But at least there was some foundation for what happened to David, and a gradual decline built on Hillman, on how much time Gail spent obsessing over Sarah, over his father abandoning him. Rosie just became a slapper out of nowhere, some bizarre caricature made of equal parts misogyny and pornography. The character is spiteful, cruel, selfish, and most of all, incredibly stupid.

  • pat

Right on Bob, David Platt is really evil, Rosie is just an ignorant tramp. From what I read, the actress Helen is somewhat like her role, Rosie. They both appear puffed up with their own sexiness if you can call it that, and neither of them have any education. Both appear as brainless as the other.

  • Pearl

Nay, Rosie has miles to go before she's half as mean, sly or nasty as David.

  • clare

Hmm tricky one this week...i think Rosie has the potential to be as or even more evil than David (who would have thought it possible!) yes, but currently no. Although i do hasten to add that she does unveil the information Tony needs before he kills him, therefore, she is the catalyst. I love Liam (and Liam and Carla) and as Rosie is involved in his demise then yes i would class her as evil

  • Janet

Nay, the character isn't a worse person, but she's certainly less interesting to watch.

  • Mags

Yes Rosie is definitely worse than David Platt because David went through a hell of a lot with the horror of Richard Hillman etc but Rosie has no excuse she is just a spoilt tarty little brat.

  • R. Marsden

Yes, I think she is turning into a real cow.

  • bob

David Platt is just plain evil without any redeeming qualities. The world would be a lot better off without him.

Rosie is just an ignorant, stupid little slapper. Yes, she's a slut, and she certainly is not a nice person, however she is not (yet) evil.
