Petition! Keep Jerry and Teresa Morton on Corrie

Comments (32)

1-9-teresa-jerry.jpgCorrieblogger Eileen Downe (!) suggested this and I'd been thinking of it myself, so here goes...

I know that a lot of people who read Corrieblog and post comments have really appreciated the acting talents of Karen Henthorn and Michael Starke (Terry and Jerry Morton) in Coronation Street recently. Even before Teresa arrived on the Street I was a fan of Jerry's character and thought more could have been made of him, but since the inclusion of Teresa the Mortons have been fantastic viewing. The Street will be an emptier place without them.

Anyone who'd like to agree and add your name to the Keep the Mortons petition - click the comments link and add your voice. You never know who might be reading!

why can Jerry and the family - they were so amusing and you never knew what to expect - juggling all those kids and work - that's the real world. Jerry was jolly and you really felt for him - wish corrie execs would have written more stories - could have been interesting - Eileen needs someone - common bring him and the kids back -

also stop killing off people - its getting unrealistic!

  • Elizabeth

Really hope Jerry will come back, he is a lovely character and kind and thoughtful to his family and friends. He should get back with Eileen and hopefully form a lasting relationship. His wife should also come back but be shown to get her come uppance as she has done so many nasty things and tried to ruin people's lives. Also bring Sunita back with the twins. He needs some happiness!

  • ATVLand

NOOOOO! Don't bring back Sinbad and the rest of the kids. Although there was some improvement towards the end, I still don't want to see them again.

Daryll - and even Theresa - should definately stay though.

  • Sue

Definitely keep the Morton family! I really enjoy their storylines and I even like the kids. I've always liked Michael Starke (Sinbad) and can't understand why this family is being dropped.

  • Mrs A Kings

Please keep the Morton family, it makes a refreshing change to the old timers.

If they get rid of anyone, then maybe it's time we said goodbye to Ken & Dreary!, but still keep Blanch as she cracks me up.

  • Actually Georgina I hate to love her lol. She's as tough as old boots but she wears killer heels!

  • Georgina Kergon

Please please keep Jerry and family. What an excellent storyline; don't we all love to hate Theresa?

  • Veronica

    Please keep the Mortons !!!!!!!

I think they are great for Corrie, and give them some more story lines, Like Albert T, I think they could be a classic Corrie family in the street

  • Dan

Teresa has brought them to life - save them, keep them in Corrie!

  • Albert T

I always thought that if they were ever given a decent storyline the Mortons would be a success, unfortunatley it seems to have come too late.I feel that they've only scratched the surface of their potential. So yes defintley keep them in whatever combination, though something would have to be done with regards to Fin and Kayleigh.

If only they'd been given a fraction of the storylines afforded to the over-rated Connors they'd already be on their way to being an all-time classic Corrie family.

  • Phillip Pirrup

I'm going to break rank and say let the Mortons go. I think they are very good at the moment. But if they stay on they will get stale and go back to being their boring selves before they were due depart.

In short let them go out on a high.

The street already has too many hangers on

  • Sue B

Keep the Mortons and get rid of the Connors, Sean and Prem and his family.

  • Debs

Yes keep the Mortons, I love Jerry cause he's such a natural. The street needs the Mortons at first I didn't care for them but they have since grown on me..

  • Carla

    Oh, yes please.

  • mary

    definitely keep all of them

  • Annee

I vote to keep the Mortons. Darryl and David are great together. I loved Michael Starke in The Royal and I love him on Corrie. We haven't seen Theresa in Canada yet so I can't speak for her, and if they get rid of the kids there won't be anybody left in that age group. I like it when they have people of all different ages on Corrie. It does take time to get used to some families. I hated the MacDonald family when they started but Steve is one of my favourites now.

  • Pearl

Second Karen Lee motion - keep Jerry and family, lose Sean.

  • Dash

I have to agree. The writers didn't give them enough storylines at first, now they've got 'em they're off! Where did Jerry's dad get to? They should have partnered him up with Blanche in the pub, and had him like his character "Tommy" in the wonderful "Early Doors". What a great pair those two would have made! Come on writers, keep them in, you can write them stories.

  • Mike Lake

YES....keep the Mortons. And now that Mel is a copper, perhaps she can investigate the strange disappearance of her grand dad.

And another question....who is Turner? We see Turner's Joinery at the end of the street, but has anyone ever seen him or anyone else who works there?

  • amanda

keep them in the show because they are great and Teresa can get up to more trouble.

  • oldtimer

KEEP THEM ALL! Teresa and Jerry's story and acting has been riveting - he loves her but she's hurt him once too often. She loves him but she's knows she ruined it. He didn't just rush down to the Police Station to spare his family, he's a big hearted man. In spite of what she's done to him he "loves the bones off her" as he said from his hospital bed. She wants her family back again. She's a real Corrie woman, hard as nails outside and marshmallow ouside. I used to hate them, but they're great actors who never had a good storyline. Could it be they are being ousted because long-serving Corrie actors resent them as they've been in other soaps as well?

  • Peter

As long as this petition is made aware to those who can make this decision, it can do no harm. Teresa, Jerry, Mel and Darryl have to stay. As i said previously be bold with the little kids and kill them off tragically. It will bring Teresa and Jerry back together and they aren't great characters even with the support of their family characters. If they do leave the show it will be an utter travesty and i will lose all faith in this show.

  • Karen Lee

YES, PLEASE KEEP JERRY, MEL AND ALL THE KIDS! Jerry fits in so well with the other characters and I was sorry he and Eileen didn't make a go of it. I'd happily trade Sean for Jerry any day....

  • Raymonde

Please keep Jerry. He's such a wonderful actor and a great addition to the Corrie family. Get rid of Darryl instead.

  • Mags

Yes keep the Mortons now that they are actually getting bigger parts and the viewers are warming to them. I think it would be a shame now to see them go just as they are getting popular. I hope that the script writers think again. Lets get rid of the Connors though.

  • seanie

Wouldnt it be great Teresa and Jerry got back together? Well that cant happen, but u gota keep them! but was it tereas's lar sppearencs last night, i kinda thought it was her last straw. This petition shows how much people has changed their mind after their one-hit wonder storyline. keep tereasa, leave the rest, she could be a great corrie character - i could see her staying for a long, long time if shes not axed.

  • Dilly Daydream

Oh yes, keep Teresa, the character and the actress are brilliant. And if keeping her means keeping Sinbad, so be it. But none of the others (except maybe Darryl at a push).

  • Sharon

Yes, I would love to see Jerry, Mel & Darryl stay! I quite like Jerry. Keep him on Corrie!

  • Gill

It is only now that they are going that the writers have actually made something of these characters by giving them juicy storylines and complex personalities. What a missed opportunity. I felt quite moved when Mel sneaked into the ward for a cuddle with her dad.

  • Naturally if we get to keep Theresa in the Street then Jerry can come back (hopefully) they really do make a great team.

Come on Corrie don't make the same mistake that (The London Soap) made all those years ago when they banished Karen Henthorn to the Outer Hebrides with Nigel and Debbie.

  • abbyk

I love Jerry, Darryl and Mel lately. Each of them has a lot of storytelling potential. Jerry is a good neighbor to Gail and a good dad. Darryl is David's only friend and has a loser job even though his twin is on a career path. Mel is a cop. There's always crime, you always need a cop, esp. a rookie who is going to make mistakes. (And I like her, underused as she is.) Theresa, yikes, she makes me cringe, but I guess that means there's some fine acting going on there. Honestly, talented as she is, Teresa could stay or go, don't care. For Jerry to take her back would be ridiculous, and no one else on the street wants anything to do with her. As long as Fin and Kayleigh are good at washing their hands, I say keep'em.
