Liam Connor - between a rock, a hard place and Tony Gordon

03_10_liam-tony-4.jpgI have such mixed feelings about the Liam Connor/Tony Gordon plot in Coronation Street. On the one hand, obviously I don't want Liam to die (NOOOOOO!!! DON'T DIE, LIAM!!!!!). Ooops, sorry, lost control a bit there. But on the other hand, I'm loving Gray O'Brien's work as Tony Gordon. He's an absolutely classic charming villain - the way he dismissed Miss Rosie's advances on Friday was brilliant, and the more scary he gets, the better I like him.

On ITV.com today, he's talking about next Friday's little excursion to some caves, in which Tony has Liam scared for his life...

Gray says finding out about Carla and Liam is the trigger for Tony to get very nasty indeed. "As soon as Tony found out, he couldn't believe it. I guess he'd always thought Carla was still a bit sweet on Liam, but now he's seen the evidence he's absolutely furious," he says. "Tony decides it'll be nice for them to all get away to some dramatic surroundings."

So Tony, Carla, Liam and Maria all go off to a nice hotel - but the hotel is near some creepy caves, and Tony invites Liam out for a spot of male bonding. Is it bonding he has in mind? Gray says, "I think he definitely wants to get him back, and I think it's quite obvious he is going to hurt him in some way. I don't know if Tony's ruthless enough to kill - there's a difference between trying to get your own way in business, and a twenty year prison term. It's certainly the beginning of a dark, long and winding road - in the words of Paul McCartney."

You'd think dopey Liam would keep well away from ROCKS after last time!

I agree with you Sue, shame to see Liam killed but Tony's character has properly grown and developed over the last 12 months into the character he is now, whereas I have to admit Liam's character has always been a bit inanimate in my opinion. He does come out with the odd witty one liner though. Why would Tony ask Liam to be his best man when he has only just come back from Scotland after asking his brother to be it, hence the requirement to buy a new kilt? Surely if anyone would be a replacement for the brother if he couldn't be best man after all then it would be his old mate Jimmy Dockerson who nicked Kevin's clients from the garage. I wonder if we will actually get to see the wedding itself. Maybe but without Liam as the best man after all!
