Blast from the past as Kenneth Cope returns to Coronation Street

kenneth-cope-246.jpgMore senior Corriebloggers will remember a character in the early sixties called Jed Stone, also known as Sunny Jim. He was one of those "loveable rogue" types, who could charm the birds off the trees. He specialised in charming old ladies, including Minnie Caldwell who thought of him as the son she never had. You can read all about him here.

Jed Stone was played by Kenneth Cope, who will also be remembered for his part as a ghost in the cult TV series Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased). And apparently Kenneth Cope is about to return to Weatherfield, as an "elderly tenant" (of what or where I don't know) who stands in the way of Tony Gordon's business expansion schemes.

Now all we need is to bring back Barbara Young as Doreen, for a bit of love interest for him!

I remember Jed Stone. If he is coming back he could fill us all in on what finally happened to Minnie Caldwell - we never did hear of her again did we?

I really hope he is brought back as his former character and their is interaction with others such as Ken and Emily.

However if he is going to be in Tony's way then it sounds like the boot will be on the other foot this time around. I wouldn't fancy Jed's chances.

According to the Daily mail, he *is* going to be Jed Stone!!!! i hope they address it and have Ken and Emily catchup. he'd be perfect for Blanche!

I don't remember Jed Stone, but it seems to me that it would have been a better idea to bring Kenneth Cope back into Corrie as Jed, rather than someone new.

I agree, Sky, wouldn't it be awesome to have him back as Jed? I know one man who'd be dead chuffed. Kenneth was the first Corrie cast member this man got an autograph from back in the 60s. He still has it.

  • They could actually bring him back as Jed. It would be a neat bit of continuity and - if Ken and Emily were brought into the mix - he'd have some ready-made pals from "back in the day".

    But they probably won't...
