Man has phobia of Coronation Street theme tune after accident

CurlyVera.jpgMost accidents happen in the home, but I wonder how many of them happen during the Coronation Street commercial break when people are rushing to make a quick cup of tea or get to the loo?

Ten years ago, Chorlton man Richard Collier used to love Corrie, and didn't want to miss a second of his favourite soap because he was gripped by the storyline about Judy and Gary Mallett's "adopted" baby. Unfortunately Richard's half-time dash to the loo ended with him slipping on the stairs and falling so badly that he broke his neck in three places and was unable to walk for six months.

Since then, he hasn't been able to tune into the Street, because just the sound of the theme tune brings back memories of his terrible accident. He's missed over 2,000 episodes. But recently he's managed to recover some of his mobility, and also been able to catch up with his former favourite soap. "I had a few pangs of panic when the music came on," he told the South Manchester Reporter. "It was a bit strange though because I didn't recognise most of the people on there - Vera's gone, Curly's gone - I didn't really know what was going on."
