Meet Kirk's new girlfriend

On ITV.com today you can watch a video in which Katy Cavanagh describes her new character, Julie Carp - the new woman in Kirk Sutherland's life. "Julie's full of energy," she says. "She's very positive, she's very motherly, she's a bit of a romantic, quite emotional, quite sensitive occasionally. Overall quite an upbeat person."

Of course Julie isn't the first great love of Kirk's life, and she says, "I'm a bit nervous about Fiz and Kirk because they're obviously an institution, so it's difficult coming in as the new girlfriend in the middle of their relationship because they're so well-loved and everybody wants them to get back together, so it'll be interesting how it all pans out."

Jennie McAlpine (Fiz) agrees that there might be a bit of tension...

"I think there's definitely going to be a bit of love triangle between Fiz, Kirk and Julie," she says. "She's a bit annoying but there's nothing properly wrong with her, she's not a bad person. She's interfering with Chesney, which isn't good - making him chicken noodle soup when he isn't well. Fiz would like to see some bad in her, but she's just a caring person, which is very annoying - they're the worst!"

Andrew Whyment (Kirk) says, "Kirk thinks Julie's just the bee's knees. They get on dead well, she's dead funny. They're perfect for each other - a bit like Kirk and Fiz really. I didn't think Kirk could get anyone else that would suit him, but Julie's fantastic, they get on great."

"She's just totally in love with Kirk," Katy says. "She thinks he's fantastic, she thinks he's really profound - he's deep and he's intense and moody and gorgeous. She's madly in love with him!" And Kirk isn't the only one who captures her heart: "She adores Chesney. She thinks he's fab and wants to mother him and take care of him and cuddle him mostly

Sam Aston says Chesney doesn't have a great opinion of Julie. "She harasses him almost," he complains."She's always throwing in ideas that aren't great ideas. She gets on his nerves a bit."

So will Fiz and Kirk ever get back together? Andrew Whyment says he loves working with Jennie, so maybe it'll happen in the future. Sam says it's definitely what Chesney wants to happen. Jennie says that the public like Kirk and Fiz as a couple, but she thinks it's important for Kirk to spread his wings a bit and to have a new challenge, "And Julie is a challenge!"

But Katy Cavanagh seems to want to do herself out of a job, because she really hopes that Fiz and Kirk will be a couple again one day.
