Hearts will be breaking all over Corrie-fandom by the end of this year. Rob James-Collier has revealed that he's going to be leaving Coronation Street this year after only two years on the show as reported in the News of the World. Quotes say he doesn't want to be typecast but a spokesperson from the show said that it was always understood that he would leave at the end of his contract. That seems to indicate to me that this Carla obsession will be the end of his marraige or he and Maria will leave together. With the rumours flying that Bradley Walsh may be back as Danny Baldwin sometime this year, though there's no official word yet on if and when, it might dovetail with that nicely.

The first thing I thought about when I saw the news on Digital Spy earlier today was "oh no, Sue's going to be devestated". Still, fellow Liam lovers will hope for lots of Liam posts by Sue in the run up to his leaving, preferably with bare-chested pictures (of Liam, not Sue)
"Liam" either has to stay for at least another contract longer than he intended or he takes a trip to Ireland and comes back with a new face - its been done before in Corrie only please make sure the new face is REALLY good-looking to be able to take Liams place.

NNOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm devastated! He is one of my favorite characters. I don't understand the typecast thing- his character is just ordinary, it's not like he is playing a twisted psycho etc.
It is a shame that he is going. I am a bit shocked to be honest. However, the show will survive. I think there is a lot of hype surrounding Liam Connor and his character is vastly over rated in my opinion.
Though i feel kind of cheated in many ways with the Connor family. Thats two that will have gone relatively quickly. We know Kym Ryder (Michelle) is here for as long as Corrie want her and that Alison King (Carla) is signed up to a long term contract thanfully.
Things though are opening up nicely for the return of Danny Baldwin in the Autumn as stated by www.digitalspy.co.uk recently.

I agree about that list of actors that NEED TO GO! But I would add the actress who plays Carla...her voice is like chalk on a chalkboard...screechy! Bad actress too!

Why do the good ones leave so quickly? Of the Connors first Paul, now Liam leaving Carla, Michelle and Ryan. The interesting ones go leaving the boring family members in the show. Unless the factory is sold again, Carla will have to stay on as owner. Maybe it is time it was downsized and updated into a call center.
I think Liam will sell his share to Danny Baldwin (when he returns) leaving Carla heartbroken but she will eventually get into a r/ship with Danny, being business partners etc. They would make a great couple- Danny would be able to spoil Carla and also keep her in check. Will really miss RLiam though!!!
The good ones leave because they want to do other things. And as far as being "typecast", i think it's more that probably he feels if he stays with corrie for a long time, that's all anyone will ever see him as, Liam Connor though other actors in the past have left with success when they had talent to back them up.

I shan't miss him, was never a fan of the Connors (any of them).
The actor who played Paul said the same, anyone seen him on anything since? I havent. It would be a shame if Liam goes but nobody is bigger than the show, it will move on. I expect Bradley Walsh will be back now.
so liam is leaving the show that pity i really want him to go with becky. Now they putting her boring lloyd who cant act, least liam was bit of eye candy i really disappointed that liam leaving him and becky would made great couple not i going to happen now. instead they put with airhead maria and cartoon villian carla and the rubbish love triangle no wonder he has left the show.
Whilst we do quite like the character of Liam in our house, we think RJC is a really terrible actor and really cannot see him doing very well outside of the street. They get these ideas they can go on to bigger & better things and end up in bloody casualty!
Rob has already done his stint in Casualty - he played a faith healer in a 2006 episode called 'Secrets and Lies.' So at least he knows his way around!

I'm so glad that Rob is leaving as his character didn't do much for me. I too just wish he would take Carla with him. God I can't stand her acting, she is so over the top. When the Connor family first came on the scene I thought they were going to be a great bonus to the Street..turns out that only Michelle has been mildly interesting, the rest of the family could have gone a longtime ago..just my humble opinion...

C) Were both complex, funny, interesting, played by utterly AMAZING actors (seriously, for awhile I thought Rob and Alison were and actual couple you can imagine the shock i got when i found out they werent!!) and good hearted, (beneath it all, Carla may be well, Cruella, but she is good at heart, well she's no Charlie Stubbs anyways..)

nooooo, i love liam, and i love the carla and liam storyline too. they go soo much better together than maria and liam. i love carla, she is hilarious, my fave in corrie. i really wanted carla and liam to start off properly, and them to get married and stuff, cos they belong together, and its obvious they really love each other,also wish maria would bugger off ( cos i hate her ) but not leave with liam, cos that would make me mad. i hope there will be a oppertunity for him to return to corrie, and for liam and carla to finally be togther. all liarla fans can keep they're fingers crossed.the liam and ,maria storyline was my fave ever and in REALLY sad it has to be cut short, corrie won't be the same :(

I think they wrote that about Tony because this is a very old thread and there were a lot of Liam/Carla fans that wanted anyone who could get in the way of Liam and Carla being together to go so that means Tony and Maria basically. They weren't bothered (or had noticed!) about the acting I don't think, they were just obsessed with Liam and Carla. Lol. This might not be the case on this particular thread but there were certainly plenty of obsessed fans elsewhere that were disgusted that Maria dared to get pregnant again by her own husband and thus getting in the way of Liam and Carla! Lol. Anyway we don't need to worry about that now since Liam was killed a year ago nearly.
