Liam and Michelle's parents, Barry and Helen Connor, arrived in Coronation Street last night. It was their first time in Weatherfield - but I bet you recognised their faces.
Helen is played by Sorcha Cusack, who is part of the Cusack acting dynasty that includes father Cyril and sisters Sinead and Niamh. Sorcha was born in Dublin, and her television credits include 24 episodes of Casualty (as Kate Wilson), Inspector Morse, The Bill, Poirot and many more. And, coincidentally, she has a son called Liam!
Frank Grimes plays Barry Connor. Also born in Dublin, he's had a varied career including stints in Casualty and Holby City, and appearances in cult feature films Britannia Hospital and The Whales of August. Lindsay Anderson, who directed those films, also cast him in David Storey's play The Farm, which established his reputation in theatre. He was nominated for Broadway's 1970 Tony Award as Best Actor (Dramatic) for Borstal Boy.

Quick question, how come the Conners snr are Irish whilst their offspring are all Mancs? Is there some hidden character history we don't know about, or just laziness on behalf of the writers?
I thought they were both great. I really enjoyed watching their characters last night. How refreshing to have some genuinely nice characters that were not boring.
I want to see a lot more of them.
I haven't seen them yet and won't for a few months, so I cannot comment except to say, when did Coronation Street become Connor Street?
Trivia... Mammy Connor is in real life the sister of Mad Nanny Carmel, Martins stalker from a few years ago.
