Jamie bought a flame-coloured, flame-patterned car. "I thought it would make you smile," he told Violet, but it takes more than a comedy vehicle to get Violet to cheer up. While he dashed off with a consignment of their belongings to London, Violet went into labour in t'Rovers (luckily Vernon plans to start the redecorating very soon and has already got the materials). It was quite an amusing birth, with Sean providing annoying support, Marcus at the sticky end and a comedy chorus of Liz, Vernon, Eileen and Lauren looking on (until Vernon felt faint and had to go to the cellar to "fetch mixers").

The baby was born without difficulty or incident, and Sean was thrilled. "I was the first face he saw!" he said. But Jamie missed the birth, and when he finally got to the hospital he was upset to find Sean sitting cuddling the baby. Jamie is now more determined than ever that they should leave, but Violet is having second thoughts - she doesn't think she can deprive Sean of the baby.

It was a bumper day for Emily's charity shop...

As well as inheriting a bag of clothes etc from Violet, who was having a pre-London clear-out before she went into labour, Jack also decided it was time to sort out Vera's things. I'm ashamed to say that when he picked up one of her blouses and said, "I can smell her," my daughter and I simultaneously said "Urrghh!" Not the reaction that was intended by the scriptwriters, I suspect.

Dan took Kelly to Valandro's, they had a slap-up meal and two bottles of champagne, then left saying Paul would pay. Paul had to tell Leanne this was the result of a bet between him and Dan, and she's insisting he pays up. When Dan and Kelly got back to his place, their romantic mood was scuppered by the discovery that Harry had moved out Dan's minimalist furniture (Harry's take on glass coffee tables: "How can you make a statement with something you can't even see?") and replaced them with his "old man" furniture.

Also visiting Valandro's were Michelle, Wendy and Alex. The plan was for Alex to go home with Wendy, but he ended up back at t'Rovers again, watching video of Saint Dean.

In other news, Carla asked Tony to move in with her. And David and Tina had probably the worst party in the history of rubbish parties. It was attended by Darryl and Amber, and seemed to last for about half an hour. It was a lot less exciting than Dev and Amber's earlier conversation about the number of calories in a pasty.

We are so far behind in NZ it isn't funny so keep up the blogs which make it more interesting.

Corrie is becoming more and more "American soap style" every week. Most of the stories are stupid and dragged out way too long.

  • Minnie Caldwell

Another totally unrealistic soap birth, all over in 10 minutes with a bit of ooing and ahhing and not a drop of blood in sight, delivered on a non hygienic pub work top by a radiographer.

  • Dilly Daydream

Totally agree with you Brenda. And I'm glad Violet is having doubts about depriving Sean of seeing the baby. And I'm glad Jamie wasn't there for the birth - to my mind, that's how it should be.

  • Brenda

True, folks, but when the real father is ready, available, willing and able to be a Dad, saying someone else is does not change the fact. Sean is the father. End of.

  • Pearl

You are bang on Leah, being a father do not make you a dad.

  • Leah

Violet an jamie r gonna hav a tough time tryin to convince people to call jamie the dad. I don't think

the blood connection matters i think its who raises the child, who reads it storys at night, who takes it to school, that makes them the dad. not blood.

  • Brenda

Why wouldn't Sean cuddle the baby? He IS the baby's father. Jamie can pretend all he likes, but there is no changing that.
