EmilyErnest2.jpgIt's time to clamber into the Corrie time machine again, to see what the big events were from 7 - 13 January in Coronation Street history.

11 January is the anniversary of three Corrie deaths: Vera Lomax, Eddie Seddon and Ernest Bishop.

Vera Lomax was the daughter of Ena Sharples. She died in 1967 of a brain tumour. Ena and Vera had had a turbulent relationship, and Ena was ridden with guilt after Vera's death because she'd given her such a hard time. Sally Webster's father, Eddie Seddon, died in 1989. He was a violent man, who died in a lorry crash.

Ernest Bishop, of course, was the beloved husband of Emily...

Outwardly quiet and mild-mannered, Ernest was a man of hidden depths, as you can read here. On 11 January 1978, he was making up the wages at Baldwin's Casuals when two armed men burst in. They were disturbed by Mike Baldwin, and a gun went off and Ernest was shot in the chest. He died in hospital. He was so well-respected in the community that Annie Walker closed the Rovers on the day of his funeral. Emily was devastated by her loss. In 2006 she had to relive events when Ernie's killer, Tommo Jackson, returned to the Street.

One wedding to tell you about. On 9 January 1985, Bill Webster married Percy Sugden's niece Elaine Pryor. They moved to Southampton, and from there to Germany. Elaine had an affair, and the marriage ended in 1995.
