We had a hint of this previously, but the Daily Star today has a story about what's going to happen in the Duckworth household following Vera's death.
It seems that Jack placed a bet on the horses, which turned out to be a big winner, but he can't find the betting slip and assumes that it must have been cremated with Vera (an odd assumption, but I expect it'll make sense eventually). What has actually happened is that Slimy Paul Clayton has cashed it in, and has an agreement with Dan Mason that they won't tell Jack. Dan gets £1,000 of the money to keep quiet.
As usual with the Masons, Dan does one thing then Harry disagrees, because he's older and wiser. Harry knows that they could lose their license, and forces Dan to pay Jack. Things get messy for Paul at this stage - in an effort to keep the money, he threatens the Masons, and that is not a sensible thing to do. The Star's Coronation Street insider says, “At best, Paul can expect a vicious beating from Dan’s henchmen unless he gives back the money.”
Corrieblog doesn't condone violence, of course, but Slimy Paul has deserved a vicious beating for some time.
