Meet Tina McIntyre

On ITV.com today you can watch a video interview with Michelle Keegan, who plays David Platt's new girlfriend Tina McIntyre on Coronation Street.

Michelle says that Tina is, "a bit of a bad penny, very feisty.She thinks she knows about everything but she doesn't have the knowledge to back it up." She won't be bonding with Rosie Webster by the sound of it: "She's more of a lad's girl. She hates girls, girls hate Tina, and if you were to play pool with Tina she'd probably beat you."

Michelle has some sympathy for her character's motivation. "She's never felt she's fitted in, really," she says. "She's not super-sporty, she's not a geek but she's not beautiful either, so she's never had that group where she feels like she can fit in."

So is this relationship going to be the real thing for David and Tina? Michelle thinks so: "When they first meet there's a chemistry between them straight away, and I think that's going to develop into a serious relationship. She's going to calm David down, and he's going to be a bit under the thumb. He's never had that boundary yet where someone can tell him what to do, and Tina's going to give him some boundaries."

What about the other woman in David's life? "Tina finds David and Gail's relationship quite strange," Michelle says, but even if Gail interferes, Tina is going to stand by her man. "She really genuinely likes David. She will find out about David's evil past. He tells her he has to go to court because he drove his car into the canal,and I think she finds it exciting, but I don't think she knows how evil he can be yet. I don't know how she's going to react to that."
