Dario Coates is the actor who plays Alex Neeson, Michelle's biological son, in Coronation Street. Up till now, we've only seen glimpses of him, lurking in the shadows or giving Ryan a bit of a kicking. Last night we got a proper look at him - and I was rather impressed.
Corrie is his first TV acting job, and at just turned sixteen (he was born 14 January 1992) he's already showing huge potential. He lives in Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire, and attends Calder High School, where he's studying for his GCSE's, and Calderdale Theatre School. His last role was as the Mad Hatter in the CTS production of Alice in Wonderland.
He auditioned for Coronation Street, and back in November he told his local newspaper, “I’ve always wanted to be an actor, but I never dreamed that I would get a part on TV at this stage. It is going to be really exciting and very good experience.”
I thought Dario did a superb job with his character last night. He was really convincing and it was great to see him finally get some meaningful dialogue for a scene. The scene with Michelle was actually quite touching. It was great.
I think a comparison with Ben Thompson (Plank) who plays Ryan Connor is quite fair. Dario is (from the little i have seen so far) head and shoulders above Ben's ability which many viewers seem to complain about on a regular basis.
Lets hope he sticks around.
I'm looking forward to seeing more from him in forthcoming episodes. From the previews, it looks like he has some big scenes coming up, and it'll be interesting to see what he can do. I think he shows loads of promise, and I agree with you about Ben Thompson - nice lad, but not quite up to scratch.
Dario is an awsome actor...the best I could ever know! He will achieve great things in the future - I am sure of it, with all of his ambition and spirit - and great talent of course, how could he ever not?
