A Corrieblog reader, Dan, made this comment to the review of the episode in which Vera died: "When the credits rolled at the end I expected to find 'Liz Dawn' as the first name on a page of her own, instead she was on the fourth or fifth page. What a way to treat a 33 year veteran and Coronation Street legend." In the Mirror today, Jim Shelley makes a similar point in his (otherwise glowing) review of the episode: "My only criticism is that the silent closing credits that usually mark the death of a Street legend would have been a fitting tribute." Kris Green of Digital Spy agrees: "to end the first episode with the into-adverts theme complete with voiceover was insensitive to say the least. Silent credits would have been more apt, ITV."
What do you think? Did you even notice or was your vision blurred by tears anyway?

I wouldn't have expected her name to be credited first, i think they do that by order of appearance on the show. If the actress herself had died, then yes, i would have expected it. I was surprised that they didn't have the silent ending though. Perhaps an oversight or perhaps Liz herself requested it?
Did I imagine it or was there a bell tolling during the end credits? Bit much I thought - at the end of the day, it's not real life!!
A bit much? It was a nice touch I thought
i'm sorry to read that the 'silent credit' ending wasn't used this time.
i always admired corrie for using that to end an episode when a character had died...was a nice dramatic touch, and fitting when you consider that (MOST) of the viewers have grown at times to 'love' a character, and will miss them as much as any other 'character' they have known in life. it was an appropriate way of marking respect to both the character and the actor...
I want to know why Wong's chippy was open during the end credits. First you see the pigeon, then a street scene, then people walking into Wong's with the Wong's sign still up, you can actually see staff in the old chippy. Are they not closed?
-Answer To Tara Campbell's question-
The end credits were probably shot before Wong's closed down. It was the same in '04. Dev's shop was burnt but in the opening it was like it was before it was burnt.
I think that Molly, Paul, Tyrone and Jack should of had a scene where the credits rolled at the bottom where they just sat in silence, looking at each other.
Does anybody else think the Betty, Roy and the others that came to the house should have been a bit more sensitive? They were just like 'oh dear' and 'that's terrible'. I thought they might have looked like they got a real shock.
Perhaps they should have been silent yes. However, at least there was no ITV announcer as per usual nor where there any banners either.
Meh, perhaps as fans we are a bit sad when referring to matters such as these. I wish this was the biggest grievance i had in life!
i'm with you peter...everyone has problems to some extent...but corrie has, for me and i'm sure i'm not alone, always been my half-hour of freedom from (my) reality...i like to see it done properly; no discrepancies, no dead-end characters that come and go, and proper respect for the departed favourites...
I do think Liz was let down by the credits. They do it by order of appearance, but they should make the occasional exception. I also think her death should have come at the end of the episode. I DID NOTICE
I just have to mention that I noticed Danny Baldwin's name was still in the credits and here in Canada he died a while ago. We're up to Eileen giving Holly back to her mum, yet they're still rolling the credits showing Danny Baldwin.
Correction to my last post... I meant to say that Danny Baldwin's name was in the credits since he left the street...he didn't die...my mistake.
