Whatever happened to Susan Jameson?

susanjameson2.jpgSusan Jameson might not be a name most of us Coronation Street fans remember but she's probably a face that you've seen quite a lot over the years. She was in Corrie for a few years in the 1960s and she played Myra Dickenson who married Jerry Booth in 1962 and then broke his heart. While querying Google for something else, her name and association with Corrie came up and I thought it would be an interesting weekend post. The Google entry caught my eye was her appearance on the mid-1970s science fiction show Space 1999 in an episode called Dragon's Domain. Susan has had quite a long career on stage and screen, however, including a sideline reading audio books! Click through the link for a photo of her from Space 1999 and one from a series called "When the Boat Comes In".

I'm watching the '60's DVDs right now. Myra and Jerry broke up since they were in debt and lost their baby. In a later episode (after he splits up with Sheila Birtles), Jerry and Myra attempt a reconciliation and she tries to seduce him. What ended up happening?

From this http://www.corrieblog.tv/2007/02/corries_most_un.html it seems their reconciliation didn't take and Myra left again for good, leaving a bitter Jerry behind.

Don't forget, she is also in New Tricks. She plays the wife of Alun Armstrong's OCD character.

Funny, I've just been watching the DVDs of the short-lived, syndicated Gerry & Sylvia Anderson tv show "UFO", which lasted for one season in 1969-70, and which preceded the Andersons' "Space:1999" by a few years. Susan Jameson has a guest role as a character named "Anne Stone" in an episode called "The Sound of Silence" wherein she has to display a bit of (horse) riding and stunt skill in addition to knowing her lines. In a series rife with turgid, wooden acting and terrible scripts, her performance was quite charming, memorable and very natural. Amazing that these qualities would come through so effortlessly on the screen some 37 years later! I looked her up and here's where I landed. Kudos to you Susan for being such a technically skilled actor! You really know your craft! :-)
