Yay or Nay - is Corrie on too often?

Comments (20)

It's Wednesday, so it must be time to wheel out another Yay or Nay. Last week we asked: Is Vera's death the best way for her to leave the Street? The majority vote was a Yay, with Tara Campbell summing up the general feeling: "Vera must have a dramatic finish." A few people did say Nay, including Debo who said, "I don't want to see how Jack copes with losing Vera, it'll be too depressing."

7-Nov.jpgMoving on, I was recently reading that the BBC has ruled out putting Eastenders (it's a soap, apparently) on five times a week. The comparison is obviously with Corrie, which is currently on five times a week. Is five episodes too many? Are the plots spread too thinly, the characters over-used? Or would you watch Corrie if it was on every night of the week? Click on the comments link and vote Yay or Nay - is Corrie on too often?

Yes, it's on too often. 3 times a week would do us and then we dump some of the pointless characters/stories.

  • katrina

Nay! I really would like it on more often. Would also love for our episodes to be current so that I knew what some storylines on the blog were about.

If some characters are stale, they could add some more!!

  • Ann

NAY, NAY,NAY. Can't get enough of corrie. here in North America, the american soaps (which I never watch, no comparison with corrie) are on Monday to Friday for one hour. would love to watch Coronation street every day. I eagerly await each episode.

NAY NAY NAY it is so grest to have something to look formward to after work maybe they should run it in the UK like here in canada once a night with a full catch up of the week on sundays i love my corrie EVERYDAY !! if it was shorter it would take forever to finish one storyline ie tracy's trial would take all year!!!

  • Brenda

I agree with Pearl - I find it a lovely break in a busy day and look forward to visiting the Street and its people each and every weeknight.

  • Pearl

Nay, also from Canada where 1\2 hours spread evenly through the week works fine. If we miss an episode we can catch up with the Sunday Omni which repeats the week's shows in a 2 1\2 hour marithon. A bit too much all at once. Personally like the large cast and the "fill-in" eps between major stories.

Nay. EastEnders actually is 2 minutes longer than Coronation Street per week (BBC doesn't show ads).

  • Sally Black

My husband and I would watch Coronation Street SEVEN days a week !! Our very favourite television show !! Very upset when some specialty show bumps it off ocassionally. Could never be on too often !!

  • Pauline

Monday to Friday is great, in Canada we are so far behind 7 days a week would work. Used to like the reruns of the 60's episodes also, but they stopped running.

  • Missy

In Canada-I agree that everynight is great ! I look forward to it every night. It is a great way to relax.

If it gets shortened up-we will never catch up to Britain !!

  • Seanie

Nay. I think has it's lack of good storylines for a while but i don't know what I'd do without my 7.30 spot filled with Coronation Street. Readers of Corrieblog, you harley want Emmerdale or Eastenders to take over do you? A certain nay

  • Chaz

Yay, the should definitely drop the second Monday episode, aswell as the Sunday episode

  • Ant Parker

Nay, Corrie is shorter than EE, EE runs for 30 Mins solid Corrie runs for 21 mins each episode, Plus Corrie is OK at 5 a week

  • TaintedLove USA

    Yay

What they could do is drop 2 episodes and have vintage Corrie from the 60`s in their place

  • Tim

Yes definitely, because I think the quality of the show would benefit greatly from losing either the Sunday episode or the extra Monday episode. I think losing two episodes would be a bit much though.

  • lesley,

yes i would watch corrie everyday its the best soap ever its nice to relax after a long day and watch corrie

Nay - In Canada it is on at 7:00, Monday to Friday so it is easy plan for. I do agree that things were better when it was on 3 times a week but then again so were some of the actors and the writing. When they moved to 5 times a week is also when they shifted the focus to the younger crowd.

It's a Yay from me as well. The second episode on a Monday used to only be used if there was a really huge storyline on the go, but then it turned into a regular thing. Not sure I agree that the writing and acting has suffered generally, but I think sometimes there'll be a "filler" episode where not much happens and that's a bit dull. And Tvor's point about "flavour of the month" characters being over-used is a good one - hence Julie Hesmondhalgh needing to take a year off, presumably.

Yay Its on far too many times a week. I would like to see just one episode on a Monday and even get rid of the Sunday episode too and go back to 3 times a week. The cast is far too big and I think the writing and acting has suffered, the plots are becoming too far fetched and credibility is being stretched to try and fill 5 episodes a week. Go back to 3 episodes let the stories and characters develop and give the actors more rehearsal time. Having said that I still enjoy it but not as much as I used too I now occasionally miss some episodes because its on too often and I have other things to do

  • tvor

I think Yay. Some characters get over used and some not used nearly enough. I think the writing has suffered and sometimes the acting since it's a lot of pressure for those who are onscreen as teh "flavour of the month" or in a major storyline.
