Jennie McAlpine: “I hope I didn’t hurt Sally too much!”

The radiant Jennie McAlpine provides the latest Coronation Street video interview on ITV.com, and she’s spilling the beans about Fiz’s suspicions about Sally and John.

“Fiz has definitely suspected that Sally has a crush on John. She’s got form, after all, so Fiz is presuming she could easily have an affair with such a good looking man as her John.” Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all. Jennie continues: “Fiz's suspicions are building and building all the time, and John is acting suspiciously. Of course we know he’s having it off with the other Webster, so Fiz has got it kind of right and kind of wrong. Then the crescendo happens when John is getting something out of Sally’s eye. From where Fiz is looking, it looks like they’re having a snog, and Fiz gives Sally an almighty slap - which I hope didn't hurt her too much! As soon as I did it I had to say sorry to Sally - it was Fiz, not Jennie!”

In a video clip we see that, thanks to Sean’s big mouth (there’s a surprise), Fiz ends up telling Kevin of her suspicions. “Fiz needs an ally,” Jennie says, “So she goes to Kevin and tells him Sally’s having an affair. There’s a bit of doubt in Kev’s mind that it could be possible, so he gets involved.” What Jennie likes about the way the story is developing is that Fiz has no suspicions of Rosie at all, and even encourages John to give Rosie a lift to school. “Fiz never suspects Rosie at all, which I think is really interesting.”

Meanwhile, in Inside Soap this week, Jennie hasn’t totally dashed my hopes of a Fiz/Kirk reunion post-Stape. “I really hope he doesn’t just take Fiz back,” she says. “Kirk’s probably a nice enough guy to lend her a shoulder to cry on, but I think she’s got a lot of grovelling to do before anything more!” So not ruling it out, then... But she reckons there’s only one man for Fiz: “She should just channel all her energy into Ches. He’s the only bloke she can count on!”
