Coronation Street fans knew him as Vikram Desai, and he's played the part of Kash in Shameless as well as doing a stint in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! But Chris Bisson reveals in an interview in Metro that life after Corrie is not always easy.
"With Corrie, people often leave and they don’t get any other work," he says. "It’s also one of those jobs you get frustrated with because you can be really busy and then, suddenly, you won’t have anything to do for two months. It would have been more scary if Corrie had been my first job but I’d been through being broke and working in Moss Bros, so I’d been through hard times before."
He reveals that, after he left Corrie in 2002, it was hard to find other acting jobs. "I did [I'm A Celebrity...] because I wasn't getting castings," he explains. "People are used to actors not being on Coronation Street for ages because their characters aren't being used, so I wanted to announce I'd left the show. Raising money for a Manchester children's hospital was also a good thing to do."
Currently, however, he's a very busy man. "I’ve done an episode for a new ITV drama about surfers called Echo Beach. And I’m running Centini, a production company, with my stepdad. When I was at uni, I worked in the Granada newsroom doing light stories and I got into acting after that. We’re doing regional tourism programmes and something about canals for Discovery."
