Is life going to mirror art for Samia Smith? Her character Maria Sutherland, the cutest crimper in Coronation Street, is about to have a pregnancy storyline, and Samia tells Inside Soap that she's quite keen to hear the patter of tiny feet herself.
"My niece and nephew came to stay with us, and I thought how lovely it would be to have kids of our own running around," she says, and admits to being in a bit of a nesting mood: "I'm forever baking chocolate flapjacks and lemon puffs!" she says. Her husband of two years, property developer Matt, would also like children, but perhaps not just yet. "We definitely want kids, but we're not going to rush into it," he says. It's not just because he wants all those lemon puffs for himself, either. "We'd like to travel and have fun first," is his explanation.
The pair are obviously very happy with their life together. They live with their Maltese terrier, Sonny, in a dream home. "It's like something out of Grand Designs," Samia says, adding, "I didn't think it was possible, but we're even happier now than when we got married."
