Monday Moan - Jason no-mates

Comments (15)

15-Oct1.jpg It's Monday, it looks as though it's about to rain, and I'm in the mood for a Monday moan. Have a look at this picture of the happy band of brothers and friends on their way to Jason's stag do. From left to right we have Jason's mother's lodger, Jason, Jason's brother (who unexpectedly turned up), Jason's boss... and Jamie.

Does this mean that Jason has no friends of his own age who don't actually live/work in Coronation Street? No-one he went to school with? No-one he goes to football with or to the pub with? On second thoughts, forget that "pub" bit, as the only pub he ever goes to is t'Rovers, since Charlie departed from the planet and the Weatherfield Arms became less alluring. I know Sarah-love keeps him on a tight leash, in case he escapes from any more toilet windows, but is it really plausible that he's got no friends who aren't local at all?

It's the same when anyone has a party in the Street. Just occasionally we glimpse a couple of extras dancing round their handbags in the background, but for the most part a typical Corrie party will consist of a scattering of Websters, a suspicion of Grimshaws, the occasional Platt and one or two Barlows, with Emily and Norris roped in to make up the numbers.

Of course I haven't seen the episode yet, and it could be that Jason will arrive at his stag do to be greeted by a vast swathe of testosterone as his many and varied friends all gather to wish him well in his forthcoming nuptials. Or maybe they'll let Ken Barlow out of the Corrie cupboard to make a speech.

More Monday moaning, Tuesday trivia and Wednesday Yay or Nay.

And what about Jason's father who never featured in the last aborted wedding let alone this one? I'm quite annoyed that Martin has hardly been mentioned either. It's like he's disappeared off the planet. I don't think Sarah has many mates either since Candice flew the coop.

I think Jason's only really ever had one friend, and that was Charlie!

I think Corrie are missing friendships groups amongst young people, to be honest. I mean, you have the likes of Eileen/Liz/Deirdre and Blanche/Norris/Rita/Emily/Doreen etc who have quite nice friendships, but you don't really have that with the youngsters. You used to see Todd/Sarah/Jason/Katy/Maria/Tyrone/Kirk/Candice etc hanging out and having quite a nice friendship group but this seems to be lacking in Corrie these days, sadly.

tvor, I'm annoyed that Martin's hardly been mentioned too....I mean, as Sarah's dad, shouldn't he be giving her away at the wedding?! It's a shame that they seem to have forgotten all about him, and they also seem to have forgotten about Nick too!

I'm not so surprised about Jason's dad not being mentioned though because the last time Jason saw him, he'd stolen some money from Streetcars and let Eileen spend the night in jail taking the blame for it! :o

I had exactly the same thoughts last week when I saw that photo.
For other Corrie stag nights, we have seen almost every male on the street turn up.
What about Tyrone, Kevin , Ashley, et al.

I think the saddest stag night has to be Ken Barlow's most recent one. He had for his stag-mates Mike Baldwin and Ray Langton along with Danny, Adam and Dev Alahan. Three of the five have seen Deirdre naked in addition to the groom to be!

Jason probably had friends, but Sarah's undoubtedly scared them off. The way she's been behaving recently almost has me feeling sorry for David FCOL!

And why isn't Liam invited to the stag do? He lives with Jamie, after all. Tvor and Laura, you're right about Martin and Nick not being mentioned. It's not like Martin is at the other side of the world - he's only half an hour away by train. Maybe we should have a whip-round for his train ticket.

When Jason first arrived he was best mates with Kirk.

Whatever happened to that friendship?

Please no! not another speach from Ken, keep him in the cupboard if he is in speach mode. You are quite right Laura regarding the lack of friendship groups among the younger set. Last outing I can recall was when Tyrone, Molly, Kirk, Fiz and Maria went to Blackpool and Fiz moaned to Molly about her dull perdictable life. Ofcourse there may be other get-to-gethers we have yet to see in Canada.

Martin is invited, but is busy on the day

Bugger it, Suspend the disbelief.

I thought tonight's episodes were fantastic! The end scene in Gail's lounge was simply classic Corrie and was fabulously done - a real slapstick and we were sad enough / tickled enough to rewind it on Sky Plus to watch it again when the credits rolled - my 5 year old and 10 year old were rolling round laughing!

Light entertainment at its very, very best. Well done Corrie.

Tonight was the best episode in years!!!!

Tvor, you just made me spill me narse cuppa tea. The thought of Dreary naked........well, enough said.

I agree that last night's episodes were Corrie at its best. Brilliant writing. Is Todd staying on and if so, I wonder if he and Sean will get together?

Apparently Stephen (Audreh's eldest son who lives in Canada) is coming back. Not sure if its for the wedding though.

What was the point of the stretch Limo, just to have five or so people rattling around in it? How much money do Jason and Sarah have to squander on an unqualified hairdresser and a unqualified builder's salary? Wouldnt they have got a cab from Streetcars? Why werent Steve or Lloyd invited to the stag do? Surprised that Sean went (although of course Anthony Cotton HAS to be in every scene almost) as I didnt think they were particulalry friendly!!

Sean does live in the same house as Jason, though. Jason really isn't a mate of Steve or Lloyd but he used to be good friends with Tyrone and Kirk didn't he?
