Liz McDonald was once landlady at The Queen's pub when she was having a fling with Des Barnes’ younger brother, Colin. In real life, The Queens pub is The Pig and Porcupine on Deansgate in Manchester, handily located just around the corner from the Corrie set at Granada TV.

Yes I pass that when I'm on Deansgate
Tvor, when you wrote "landlady" what does that mean actually as in the storyline of Liz? Is she now a "landlady" with her Steve and the Rovers? (meaning she is part owner) Was she a part owner of this other pub The Queen's Pub? I started watching Corrie after this storyline I think...My date line is 1996...lol!
Generally speaking, CorrieLoverUSA, the landlady (or landlord) is the person who holds the license(s) for the public house, but is not necessarily the owner. Steve currently owns the Rovers (the building etc) but Liz is the licensee, since Steve's convictions prevent him from holding a license.
It wasn't until 1995 that the Rovers was actually owned by anyone; the pub itself was owned by Newton & Ridley and the landladies and landlord were employed by the brewery to run the pub on their behalf. This was (and still is) a very common practice in the UK.
Ben is right, and the Landlady/Landlord could also be the manager like Shelley was. I believe Liz had the license of the Queen's but i don't really remember. She was definitely the manager though.
