Kym Ryder - another one who doesn't like snogging

Just what is it with these Connors and their fear of televised snogging? First we had Rob James-Collier admitting that he dreaded doing Liam's kissing scenes, and now his on-screen sister Kym Ryder has said in an interview in The News of the World: "It’s so awkward. It’s in front of so many people, so it’s not at all romantic."

Luckily, Kym has an understanding husband in former Eastenders actor Jack Ryder, whom she married five years ago. It's clear from the interview that the couple are very close, and that family life is hugely important to Kym. She says, "When I finish filming, I come home and chill out with my family. Either Jack or I try to always be there for the kids, to take them to school or pick them up afterwards. If we’re both busy, my mum and dad will help. I don’t want to be a part-time mum. I want to be there each day to wash school uniforms, make their breakfasts and do everything other mums do.”

Working on Corrie has helped her achieve this, as the family has been able to move from Hertfordshire to Cheshire, which means that Kym's children from her previous relationship, 12 year old David and nine year old Emily, can be close to their father and to Kym's parents.

Apparently, being on Corrie was always high on Kym's acting wish-list, and she hopes to follow in the footsteps of one of the Street's great icons: "I loved Elsie Tanner. She was the woman of Corrie – strong, feisty and sexy, the whole package," she says, adding that she plans to be in Coronation Street "until they sack me!"

Her immediate Corrie future seems assured, with a big storyline coming up, but Kym is taking nothing for granted: "I still look around the set and do double takes when I see the other actors and realise where I am. I’m grateful because people have taken a huge chance on me when I could have been rubbish!"
